Jaye continued to smirk at Blake. "What, so a tree fell on him and then stood straight up again?" While the Chimchar's social skills were generally lacking, it was clear enough to him that the Riolu could be intimidated out of a fight. And, all things, considered, Jaye really would rather avoid fighting again. Just because he felt better didn't mean he felt his best; for that matter, he didn't entirely want to fight in the first place. He only knocked Rumen out because it was either the red Riolu or himself. The natures listed for his unconscious adversary attested well enough to that. 'I wonder what my nature or natures are, as a Pokemon...'
Soon, though, the Chimchar moved on from those thoughts to more immediate and pressing concerns. 'He has some kind of bombs...and I'd really rather not be on the receiving end when they're used...so I need to intimidate him. Great. I'm not much of a bluffer. Just have to make it seem like I know more than I really do.' "I took him out, Blake. You can see what happened. I have no plans for being here when he wakes up, and I have no plans for your hostage to be, either." He decided to avoid mentioning Cameron's name if he could help it - less to be tracked by, since undoubtedly neither the Charmander nor himself were in favor with the Guards. 'Although...if Pokemon nature isn't much different from human nature, they're not going to want to spread a story of getting defeated so badly. We might get away no worse for the wear.' "You seem a bit more reasonable than your partner. So here's my thought. You stick with him until he wakes up and I leave you alone and go my way with my fellow Fire-type. You don't get more trouble and we don't either." In reflection, trying to make a deal with a group involving those two might be suicidal, but another fight might too and Jaye still would sooner keep peace as long as possible.

As Jaye's expression remained as confident and strong as ever, Blake began to think that perhaps he was telling the truth after all. If he was lying or bluffing or something of the sort, he was doing it very well. When he came to this conclusion, he took a hesitant step back, away from the Chimchar and silently gulped. A look of slight fear was suddenly cast across his eyes. Things were only made worse when he heard the name 'Blake.' The name struck a chord in his core and his eyes widened with surprise. He took another step backward. Had he really bitten off more than he could chew with this Chimchar?
He turned his gaze back down to the unconscious Rumen. The red Riolu was roughly twice as strong as he was. And yet there he was, laying on the ground after clearly taking a hefty beating and suffering utter defeat. There was surely no way he could beat the Pokemon that managed to defeat his partner like that. Maybe it was best that he simply gave in to Jaye's demands for now? They could always regroup and try to get them again at a later time if they needed to. But then again....
His mind turned to thoughts of the bombs he was carrying with him. He knew that he couldn't win a truly fair fight. But perhaps if he was able to gain the upper hand with these, he might be able to....
"A-and what if I don't, huh!?" he called out to the Chimchar, after several moments of quiet between the two. "What if I just come over there and beat you myself? I notice you conveniently left that option out of your reasoning. Why should I surrender to the likes of you just because you beat my partner? It just so happens that I'm actually stronger than he is! I was just surprised that a runt like you was even able to beat him...!"
The look of fear that had been in his expression seemed to be gone at this point. On top of this, if it was a bluff, it would be a very convincing one to most Pokemon. Could he possibly be telling the truth, or is it truly nothing more than a bluff?

The Riolu countered with unexpected confidence as well as a gross exaggeration. 'Maybe he's bluffing too? He's at least partly inaccurate.' "Statistics don't lie, Blake, though liars use statistics. You're half as strong as he is." Jaye figured that using the truth of names and facts as stinging weapons would go far to disarm his opponent. Not that he really wanted to resort to violence, but at this point his inexperience was too great of a risk.
Storing and protecting the tinted glasses, now he put a new attack plan into action. He burst into flames and, beginning to spin forward and close the gap, rushed the blue Riolu from the ground in a Flame Wheel, zig-zagging in an attempt to cut his accuracy. Those bombs - whatever they were, whatever they did - were making the Chimchar exceedingly nervous and it just didn't seem like a good idea to leave himself open any longer: the sense of exposure was getting worse by the second. As a side thought, Jaye recalled the fist badge he now wore and wondered what it did but could now only hope that it helped since he had thrown himself back into battle and closed off his long-term planning.

The Riolu swore a bit in his mind when Jaye managed to call his bluff. So then, that was how it was. Those were definitely Red's Scanglasses that he was wearing alright. Which also meant that he knew everything he needed about this situation. He must even know about the bombs currently in his possession. As such, it logically followed that the Chimchar would be taking measures to ensure he doesn't get caught up in one of those explosions. Suddenly, Blake found himself backing up another step, confidence in the situation steadily draining.
When the Chimchar suddenly lunged in his direction with the Flame Wheel, he was caught by surprise. He jumped backward in a vain attempt to give himself more room, and he reached behind his back, fumbling slightly in his rush to grab hold of one of...ANY of his bombs. He grabbed one, a green orb with a short fuse and raised it, prepared to give it a strong throw. Before he could, however, Jaye managed to barrel right into him with the Flame Wheel.
Blake let out a growl of pain as he was rammed by Jaye's Flame Wheel attack. He felt himself get smashed up against the trunk of a tree, and as a result, he lost the grip on his bomb and it flew out of his grip, landing harmlessly on the grass a few feet away. Of course, from his current position, being pinned up against this tree trunk by the Chimchar, there was no way he would be able to get to it unless he were somehow able to get his opponent away from him.
One thing was for sure to Blake at this point, though. This Chimchar was certainly a lot stronger than he looked.

Not a moment too soon did Jaye act, it seemed. Blake had almost gotten a bomb ready to throw. Almost. Way, way too close for Jaye's comfort. Despite the battle shifting in the Chimchar's favor, he knew that the situation was exceedingly precarious. As he pulled out of the Flame Wheel, which had apparently harmed Blake but not thoroughtly, he went to burning the blue Riolu with a will as much as possible in order to disable him (with a focus, again, on his shoulders and arms - those were the most threatening). The things Jaye didn't count on - a possibly fundamental weakness in his plan - were the fuses of the bombs. He had shruggged it off under the assumption that if they went off at close range there'd be collateral damage and he'd be no worse off then the Riolu. This could easily, however, become a source of folly.
The Chimchar noted the green bomb off to the side. He decided it was probably a Spore Bomb and might cause paralysis but left it along, figuring that as long as it wasn't in anyone's reach it wasn't an immediate threat. In one way he wished that he'd left the glasses on, but in another way was quite glad that they weren't currently in as much danger of being broken. Those optics were absolutely an invaluable tool. They had shown him extremely helpful information and he hadn't even used them that much yet.
Even in the heat of battle, Jaye found his thoughts turning to Cameron again, who was sitting nearby and probably still out of it. For his sake Jaye hoped that he stayed that way. His getting caught up in a battle with more powerful Pokemon would not end well here. The bombs could make it even worse. Jaye especially hoped that he wouldn't get a hold of the green Bomb. He could probably do the most damage with it just because he'd have more options.
All in all, things were looking up but the gaping holes in the Friendly/Strategic-type's strategy were growing and multiplying, as much to his dismay.

As Blake felt the Flame Wheel dissipate and remove itself from slamming him up against the tree trunk, he felt himself slide down the trunk, onto his rear. He looked up and saw that Jaye was about to place fire around him and he growled. He wasn't about to let himself get hit that easily. He scrambled as quickly as he could and managed to successfully dive to the side, avoiding the Chimchar's fire. Once he was truly out of harm's way, he desperately tried to scramble to his feet again and turn around to face his opponent.
Well, if there was any possible way of simply surrendering, it was gone now. That was fine...he just had to beat him now. And the only way to do that.... He reached behind him and quickly pulled out another small orb from behind his back. This one...was yet another green one. "Heh...this is why...I always carry two of all of them!" he called out with a smirk. He readied the bomb in his paws and prepared himself to throw it as hard and fast as possible. If he could hit this Chimchar with a Spore Bomb, he'd fall fast asleep and be completely at his mercy.
However, before he could throw the bomb, something hot hit him from behind. He let out a loud, "AGH!" as he was hit and stumbled forward. The attack had caused him to drop this second Spore Bomb as well. However, unlike the first, this one was still in arm's reach...he just had to crouch to grab it. But more importantly, he turned his attention away from Jaye and to the source of what had hit him. And there he was.
Cameron, laying on the ground, still badly injured, had managed to fire off a quick Ember attack and stopped the Riolu from throwing the bomb.
However, the blue Riolu paid him no mind for now. He just had to keep in mind that there was a second Pokemon here he'd have to watch out for in terms of attacks. He quickly turned his gaze down to the ground just a yard away, where his second dropped Spore Bomb lay. He tried to reach down for the bomb and grab it...having forgotten temporarily all about his main opponent, Jaye the Chimchar, whom he had left himself wide open to ever since taking the hit from Cameron.

Jaye cringed as Blake pulled out the second green Bomb. 'That kind of bomb must be pretty useful if it's his weapon of choice. It's definitely fast-acting with the short fuse...the short fuse!' Another idea flashed into Jaye's mind, though he had absolutely no idea how to pull it off. For the moment, he kept his fire at paw and tried to remain as agile as possible so as not to get hit.
The winds of change, however, blew once more. Cameron was apparently conscious and distracted Blake. Much to Jaye's surprise, the Riolu not only took it as a distraction, checking to see what happened, but didn't even try to stop the Charmander. He just went straight for the bomb, giving Jaye ample time to execute his idea. The Chimchar threw both of his Embers hard, targeted at the bomb, as soon as Blake looked back. The plan? Blow up the bomb in the Riolu's face. Or his grip, whichever came first. Jaye didn't exactly expect the bomb to need fire for the fuse - Blake didn't either and he knew more about it - but expected the flames to cause it to combust.

The moment Blake turned around to face the Chimchar again, he saw the Ember attack come flying in his direction. He was caught by surprise and found himself rooted to the ground, unable to move. It must have been some kind of fear or dread that stopped him dead in his tracks. Whatever the case, he couldn't stop the Ember attack from colliding successfully with the bomb in his grip. Just as Jaye had hoped, the suddenly force hitting the outside of the shell and the heat caused the Spore Bomb to explode right in his paws.
Blake let out a loud cry of pain as the bomb exploded. A smaller-scale boom could be heard as, instead of a large ball of fire exploding from within the bomb, a cloud of sparkly dust-like particles appeared, covering the entire area where the Riolu stood so densely that Jaye would not be able to make out anything that was going on in there. However, luckily for Jaye, the dust cleared out rather quickly and he could finally see the Riolu once more.
Blake was now laying on his back, limbs sprawled out on the ground, eyes shut. However, he still had steady breathing and if the Chimchar listened close enough, he would be able to hear the sounds of soft snoring. The blue Riolu was now fast Asleep due to the effects of his own Spore Bomb. He was powerless to do anything in this state, allowing Jaye complete freedom...for a short amount of time.

The plan worked even better than Jaye had originally hoped. The bomb proved itself quite potent as the spores completely obscured any visual on the Riolu. Once they vanished - Jaye took a couple steps back, wanting to avoid breathing in any air that contained the spores - the Chimchar saw that Blake was not paralyzed, but rather asleep. He made sure to remember what he now knew about the bomb, as any information he could get would help in the future.
Jaye nodded to Cameron in thanks. "Thanks for the help. As soon as I deal with him we can get out of here." He stole a glance as Rumen just to make sure that he was still out cold, then began searching the unsconscious blue Riolu for any more bombs. In the process, the Charmander tried to be very cautious in order to not wake him. When he located a red one, assuming it to be a Fire Bomb, he set it under Blake with the fuse sticking out. Once he was fairly certain he had the other five bombs and snagged the loose Spore Bomb, he lit the red one and retreated to the nearest cover, leading Cameron as well as possible ("You holding up okay?") without hurting him further. He hated to do it, especially in the otherwise-peaceful Berry grove which would probably be demolished, but it didn't seem that the action's consequences were beyond repair so it was morally justified to him to give Rumen and Blake a thorough charring. He gave the Charmander his second Oran Berry and then peeked out from cover to watch what would happen.

The unconscious Blake didn't stir at all as Jaye carefully searched him and pulled away all six of his extra bombs. Jaye was also successfully in carefully placing the bomb underneath his slightly snoring body.
Meanwhile, the Charmander was able to slowly get back to his feet, using the nearest tree to help with his balance. "Y-yeah...n-no problem. I-I thought that I should help you as much as I possibly could, even if I couldn't really fight anymore. All I did was just kind of...act, I guess...." He watched as Jaye began to place the Fire Bomb underneath the sleeping Riolu's body and his eyes widened with shock. "Y-you're not really going to...!?" he started. But before he could finish his sentence, the fuse was lit and the Chimchar was already rushing toward him. When the two of them were properly under the cover of a large tree, he covered his head to the best of his ability, ignoring Jaye's question simply out of anticipation for the explosion.
Soon enough, as planned, a large explosion erupted among the center of the grotto, centered on the sleeping Riolu. A large amount of smoke and dirt flew into the air as the bomb combusted in a large fireball. As the smoke cleared, a small crater was all that was left where the Riolu had once been fast asleep. Blake himself had been thrown by the explosion in the direction where Rumen had been laying. The two bodies were now piled on top of each other in a heap at the trunk of a tree, where their helpless bodies had been thrown by the explosion. They were both badly Burned, and Blake was no longer Asleep...but unconscious.
The Charmander got back to his feet again and peered out from behind cover as well. When he saw the destruction caused by the Fire Bomb, and the two Riolu, he muttered a small, "W-wow.... That was...so cool...."

"Thanks. Now, two things. I insist that you take this Berry," he again tried to give Cameron the Oran Berry. "Second, I'm getting out of here before they wake up and I'd very much like to have you with me if you're up to moving much. If not, eat the Berry. It would be in your best interests to travel with someone more powerful who's shown himself on your side, and it's in my best interests to have you travel with me because I'm...in a bit of a predicament." Jaye paused. "One more thing. Never had a chance to introduce ourselves. I'm Jaye."

The Charmander turned his attention from the wreckage that was once the battlefield up to the Chimchar that was now standing beside him. When Jaye offered him the Oran Berry, he hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should. But then he realized that this Chimchar hadn't even gotten touched by that blue Riolu and thus didn't need it. He smiled a bit and nodded, taking the Berry for himself. "Th-thank you very much, Mister...." he replied before taking a big, eager bite out of the Berry. It took him a moment to finish the Berry, but when he did, he felt his battle injuries begin to diminish and his strength return again. He then looked up at Jaye as he offered to travel together. His expression brightened considerably as he heard this and he smiled brightly. He nodded, saying, "Y-yes, please...! Y-you're so brave and strong and cool...I'd feel so much safer with you. Thank you very much!" When Jaye brought up that the two of them had never properly been introduced, he nodded. He had forgotten that himself, to be completely honest. "R-right!" he said, blushing a bit in embarrassment that he could have forgotten such a thing. "My name's Cameron! It's so nice to meet you, Mr. Jaye!"Cameron finally decided to cool himself down and take a couple steps back. "H-heh...s-sorry for sounding so...rash about the whole thing. With everything that's happened in the last half-hour or so, I-I'm just glad to finally be done it and have somebody who can really help me...." He turned away from Jaye now and looked across the plains. "...By the way, Mr. Jaye.... Where do you live exactly...? I thought it was strange, but I didn't really think about it until now.... What were you doing all the way out here, in the middle of the field, off the trail?"{Oh, and because I forgot this before, here's this:} ~Congratulations! For defeating Blake, Jaye earns 20 Power!~Also, from searching Blake, Jaye acquires: Fire Bomb x1 Thunder bomb x2 Ice Bomb x2 Spore Bomb x1 And 300 Poké!

"Ground rule, Cameron. Just call me Jaye. Not Mr. Jaye, not even Mr. Prower," he slipped in the last part, having forgotten his surname before. "I'm honored that you think so well of me, but...I'm not quite so great outside of battle." The Chimchar took a deep breath. He decided to go with the truth. Indeed, stranger than fiction. "This is probably going to sound weird, but I'm lost. Not just lost, as in I don't know where I am. Lost, as in almost completely clueless about the world around me. I have no memory of this world before I woke up in the middle of that chase. If I was dreaming before I woke up, it was a very strange dream and I don't remember anything before the events of the dream." He glanced at the two Dimensional Guards. "Can we continue this on the way to somewhere else? Putting distance between them and us makes us safer." Expectantly, he looked out at the plains. "Just...away from them. I don't know if I could take them both on at the same time."

The Charmander simply nodded at Jaye's request. "Yes sir, Mr. Ja-" he started, but then he stopped, catching himself before he let his tongue slip completely. "I-I mean...sure thing, Jaye. and I don't think you're that bad. You still seemed pretty cool to me back when we first met, before the chase escalated into a fight. You're strong, cool, brave, AND nice! That's not a combination you see very often I don't think. And I really appreciate all that you've done for me so far."
As Jaye began to explain everything about his situation, the Charmander just kind of...stood there, eyes wide with shock. Or at least, that's how he was at first. Soon, his eyes began to light up as Jaye was beginning to finish summarizing everything. "Ooh...a mystery!" Cameron exclaimed, clearly excited to hear such a story. Whether he was so willing to believe Jaye or didn't care whether it was fact or fiction was difficult to see. Whatever the case, he continued on, "And it's even an amnesia mystery! Those are ALWAYS my favorites! I mean, don't get me wrong, I really like criminal investigation mysteries and figuring out all kinds of small stuff too, although I guess I don't really care much for murder mysteries. I always thought they were kind of too dark for my tastes. But anyway, this is the-wait, what did you say?"
Cameron had begun to speak faster and faster as those sentences went on and he had in fact, almost missed what Jaye suggested about moving away from the two Riolu. "O-oh, yeah yeah, that's a good idea. OOH!" The Charmander's eyes suddenly lit up once more. "I know! Come on, I'll take you to the city! After all, you're going to need a place to stay, right?" Without waiting for Jaye to respond, he quickly grabbed the Chimchar's hand and tried to begin leading him away from the trees. "Come on, it's this way! And don't you worry about a thing. I'm a mystery EXPERT. You helped me out of that jam, and I'm gonna help you with your memories!"

Jaye smiled briefly at the Charmander's entheusiasm. The smile tempered slightly when he started veering off onto the wrong track. However, the Chimchar decided to roll with it. "...amnesia...maybe...something like that." 'It's about as close to the truth as makes any sense.' The seeds of doubt, however, were sown. The possibility entered Jaye's mind: 'Was it all a dream? It seemed so vivid...' He caught sight of his necklace and shook his head slightly. 'No...it was real...I'm real, and so is this world...'
Quite gladly, Jaye went with Cameron. The sight of the blast site receded behind them, and he only glanced back once. 'No regrets.' "Sure...a city sounds good...you know your way around a lot better than I do...and yes, I need to find a place to stay." It was about all the Chimchar could do to try and keep pace with Cameron's wild entheusiasm. "While we're going, would you please explain how you ran into those two? I understand if you'd rather wait, putting distance between us and them is a higher priority..."

Cameron continued moving forward, away from the blast site, still pulling Jaye along by the hand. He smiled back at Jaye as the Chimchar began to talk with him. But, when he brought up the two Riolu again, his expression fell slightly. He suddenly stopped and looked down at the ground. "...I don't know." he said, in a surprisingly glum tone compared to what he had been just moments ago. "I-I was just...minding my own business, rounding up Berries in the plains for lunch and dinner when they suddenly appeared."
As Cameron continued to talk, his eyes became watery and he wiped them clear again. "...I-I don't know...they just...they just came after me and accused me of stealing something. I-I'd never been accused of anything like that before, and by the Dimensional Guard no less.... N-now...now they're after me, and I don't know why! I-I didn't do anything illegal...! I-I don't know what the heck I'm supposed to do...! I..." He trailed off for a moment before he wrapped his arms around himself and shivered slightly. Odd, for a Fire Pokemon. "...I...I'm so scared...."

Jaye winced when the question put a damper on Cameron's mood. 'Aw, heck. Knew I should have waited to ask...but I just had to know...here goes nothing.' "Hey, don't worry too much about it. The only think they'll be concerned with is getting their stories made up right. Getting other Guards on our case means admitting that we outdid them with a fraction of the same raw power. And since you didn't do anything wrong, that's not gonna fly unless they're all deadbeats." Jaye took Cameron's hand again. "We're better than that. To the city?" Truthfully, the Chimchar had no clue if what he said was actually motivational in any way, shape, or form. But it felt like the right thing to say.

The Charmander looked up at Jaye as he began to speak again. His eyes were still rather teary, but they weren't really flowing at the least. However, a few moments after Jaye finished speaking, a small smile crept across his lips. "...Y-yeah...I...I guess that makes sense...." he replied. Despite his words, however, his expression remained as dim as before. But, at least he had a reason to hope now. "...But...but what if...?" he started, but then he stopped himself. He shook his head a bit and wiped the tears from his eyes. He was on his own now...albeit with somebody else. He needed to be tough for his new ally. He couldn't keep crying like a scared little boy. At least, not right now.
Cameron looked back up at Jaye once more, now a small, genuine smile on his face. He reached up and wrapped his arms around the Chimchar, in a sudden warm, grateful hug. "...Thank you...for everything...Bro."

Again, Jaye surprised himself. Not this time by the power of his attacks, but rather by the power of his words. He smiled assuringly at the Charmander. Although - it would be hard to say - perhaps there was more to the story? 'Well, not my place to speculate. Every story would flee from the realistic if I speculated about others. Though I may need to redefine 'realistic'...
His own thoughts kept him good company, but all departed him at Cameron's embrace. Accepting the post of being someone to rely on - a lot easier, even just in his head, than being an acquaintance - came more naturally to him. Jaye found himself returning the hug, saying what he could not voice in a great many words.

Cameron continued the embrace for about a minute longer before finally pulling away, blushing slightly in embarrassment. "O-oh, I'm, uh..." he started, seeming a bit flustered. Apparently, he didn't quite know what to say. "I'm sorry to have...suddenly put so many problems on you... We've only just met...maybe an hour ago, but I...for some reason...feel as close to you as my own family...if not more. But still...thank you for everything." With that, he smiled. This one was clearly a true smile, with no signs of the fear or sadness he had been feeling just a few moments ago.
"You know...." he said, turning back toward the plains sprawled out before them. "This should be fun.... I've never had a big brother before. I'll try not to be a pest like most little ones are, alright?" He smiled back at Jaye once more. Clearly, all of the turmoil that had suddenly struck him in the past hour or so had begun to drift away.
