((Here's my previous post on The Wish Festival, found here.)) With the eight Icy Winds coming at him at once, the Zangoose knew that he would have a hard time evading all of them. The tactic of Detect came up in his mind...but no, if he did that, he would be unprepared for whatever the other Vito clones would do. So, instead, he jumped upward and into the air, hoping to make it well over all of the attacks and to have them collide underneath him. Then, allowing himself to get caught up in the resulting explosion, he was able to propel himself through the air and come down at a random Vito...whether it was clone or real, he had no idea, but it was worth checking. As he came down, he attempted a swift Slash attack against him. He had a one in twelve chance, but whatever. He still didn't quite have the identity of the original anyway. ----- Jet heard what Doug had said and, despite the Chansey showing up, did not even need Doug to finish his last statement. He already knew how important this was if Doug was that frantic with his first one. So as a result, Jet jumped back to his feet, made his way past the curtain and dashed off, following the Weavile as best as he could, using his Agility to keep pace. But then a thought crossed his mind: This Weavile was a participant in this tournament...even if he is a clone. If he carelessly confronted him, he could end up in a really bad situation...maybe even a hostage one. As he scurried off after the Weavile, he kept that in mind decided to take the time to think back on all of the actions he'd seen the Weavile take, and prepare himself for the possible confrontation. Following stealthily from behind was highly unlikely to work, since he was probably expecting somebody to be following him, and at least this way, he most likely wouldn't be caught by a surprise attack. Doug really needed his help on this one...he still wasn't completely sure what was wrong, but if Doug was this serious about it, then he trusted him. He had no idea exactly WHY he was doing this...but he knew he had to do it.

The Vito that was being attacked made a moderate attempt to block the slash attack, but knew in the end he would be hit and thereby cease to exist. And that's exactly what happened.
At the same time, however, another Vito rushed through the dust still settling from the explosion of darkness and ice that had collided in the center of the fight. He rushed forward, slashing at the Zangoose with Assurance. Hoping to hit his opponent just after he slashed at the other Vito clone.
At this time the real Vito, whose location will remain hidden, felt two separate boosts to his strength. One was to be expected, seeing as he had just watched one of his clones get slashed, but the other one was a sign that another clone out in the world was destroyed. Good. Only one left then. And I put the most power into that one. thought Vito. That clone was only in charge of destroying other clones, so he thought for sure the clone would be soon to follow.
-----------------------
However, the clone was not soon to follow. He had a long trek through the festival grounds to make before he could finish his job. But he knew he had to hurry. From the First Aid tent he went down the road and decided to cut through the amusement park. He was pretty sure the trailers would be just on the other side. He felt it best to walk through the midway, dodging left and right to get around others who were waiting in line to play various games.

Marduk glanced behind him as soon as he felt his claws slash the Vito clone and watched it disappear before his eyes. He had learned a long time ago to always be aware of all of your surroundings. He ducked down and placed his palm on the ground, and tried to slam the bottom of his foot into the Vito that ran at him, trying to stop him from completing the Assurance attack as he was obviously trying to use. "...You will have to be more intelligent than that if you want to defeat me." was his only statement.
~~~~~
Jet needed to catch up to this Weavile that he had seen leaving the hospital tent. He needed to catch him and find out exactly it was that Doug didn't want him to get away with. But he didn't seem to be making much progress. So, he decided to speed up a bit more. Letting his muscles loosen once more, he pushed himself harder, using another Agility so as to increase his speed. He hoped he'd be able to catch up to this Weavile before he reached his destination...after all, he had no idea how vital this was.
"Pah. Silly Zangoose." now it was the Weaviles turn to Taunt. "This battle isn't about intelligence. If it were you would have been beaten into the ground." another Vito said as yet another Vito poofed into thin air. There. That should put him on the offensive. Now there were 11 Vitos left. 10 clones and one real one. "No no. This battle is clearly about endurance. How long can you keep fighting like this? Bounding around like some crazy wind up toy. I can assure you, I'm very much used to creating clones, and I can keep it up all day." Vito knew he could keep it up. He had been using his clones all day so far, and there was little that would be able to stop him. Two more Vitos launched Ice Shards at Marduk from opposite sides.
----------------------------
Meanwhile, the Vito trapped in the Midway had long since realized he was being followed. He had tried to lose the Buizel on a few occasions, but the guy was persistent. I gotta finish this quickly. I guess if I can't avoid a confrontation, I'm going to have to embrace it. he turned a corner around a dart throwing booth and waited out of site. After the Buizel came around to keep tailing him, he would grab him. If worst came to worst, he would have to bluff his way out of this one.
"You may talk as if you have room to maneuver, Weavile." the Zangoose replied with his usual calm demeanor. He didn't seem worried or confident or anything. Just...calm and collected. "...However you do not. You may not want to say it, but your Clones take energy to create. Yes, you get some of it back, but very little of it." As he said this, his attention was caught by the Ice Shards, and he leaped to the side to avoid it.
"On top of that, there is also the fact that with every Clone I attack, there is always the possibility of it being the real one...and I can see when new ones are created, so I know those aren't real. I have been battling for longer than I can remember.... A fair warning...you will be hard-pressed to outlast me in a battle of endurance."
~~~~~
Jet continued to bound forward, hoping to keep up with this Vito Clone, even though he himself did not know just what he was really following. All he knew was that he couldn't let Doug down. Whoever it was had become well aware of his presence and had started trying to lose him...but he couldn't fool Jet so easily. He may not be the strongest of Pokemon, but he was very intelligent...he knew how to track somebody, and this was of no exception. He bounded around the dart booth but suddenly...nothing? He hung around the dart booth for a second, but there was no sign that the Weavile had moved past it. Where did he go...? Without knowing, he walked just in front of the clone's hiding place, still unaware of his presence. The perfect unsuspecting prey.

Haha. This idiot clearly has no idea who he's dealing with. Vito thought to himself. Vito knew between having to deal with multiple attacks and Vito's Pressure ability, this Zangoose would be in way over his head. "Oh come on. You act like finding the right clone is just a matter of odds. You don't think I've been using these clones for very long, do you? I know how to use them in such a way that you don't even have a chance of touching the real me. Just face it. The deck is stacked, and it isn't in your favor."
At this point, all the Vitos used Agility to raise their speed. They began circling the Zangoose in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. "You really think you'll be able to keep track of the real Vito if I make new clones? You don't think I come prepared? You think I show up to a tournament with such high stakes bringing nothing but some unpracticed parlor trick? You better get those thoughts out of your head pretty quickly or this battle is going to get very boring for me, very quickly."
-----------------------------
As soon as he saw the opening, he made a grab for the Buizel, making sure once he had a good grip to pull him in and wrap his arms around him in such a way that the Buizel would have a hard time moving. Vito was used to stealing valuables, not people. Still, he suddenly felt as though if the need for a kidnapping arose, he could probably pull it off.
"Before you make another move," the Weavile clone started, "I want you to know that we know all about your friends mind reading ability."

Marduk thought for a moment about what Vito had said...pretty much exactly what he had expected to come out of the Weavile's mouth. Such ignorance and yet he was positioned as a Gym Leader in the DN2 League? Well, he couldn't put the Weavile's strength into doubt. He was definitely strong, so perhaps he had the right to be somewhat ignorant. However, to judge an opponent like he was without even seeing the full extent of his abilities? He was somewhat disappointed in this Vito Steele. Perhaps a lesson was in order...?
With that in mind, he audibly sighed. "I cannot dispute your strength and skill." Marduk said, as calmly as ever. "They are definitely present. However, you are unwise to judge so quickly. You have yet to see the full extent of my abilities." He crossed his arms in front of himself, claws clenched. His legs widened a bit so he had a more solid stance. Then, around him, the air currents started to pick up drastically, circling around him like chained dogs just waiting to be released.
~~~~~
From out of nowhere, Jet felt a powerful pair of arms wrap around his body. He was going to cry out, but it was quickly muffled. And he was helplessly dragged into the alleyway. He struggled against the Vito Clone's obviously superior strength to no avail. "Mph!!" he called out, but then Vito's words fell into his ears. "Y-you what!?" he muttered, continuing to pointlessly struggle against the Clone's strength. As he was gripped, he couldn't move his arms at all, and his heart was starting to beat faster and harder. He knew full-well that he was at this guy's mercy...whoever he was. He had been captured from behind, and still wasn't completely sure who had him like this.
Heh. So does this mean he's finally going to show his hand? Well then, I guess this is a small victory over Haru. He couldn't get this much out of this guy. One Vito stopped and watched the wind carefully, trying to figure out the Zangoose's next move. Zangoose don't know this kind of stuff. Unless... the Vito immediately raised his claw, and brought it down. The 9 clones that were circling the Zangoose vanished. Vito knew it wasn't worth the energy to attempt to stop the next attack. He was better off trying to defend himself alone.
--------------------------
Meanwhile, another Vito clone was still at large. "That's right. We know all about his abilities." In reality, the Vito had only recently been handed a note that said it was possible that the Abra may have some kind of ability that allows him to know the thoughts of others. Nothing concrete though. But if this Buizel was the Abra's closest friend here, he might know about this ability if it existed. He could make a few statements and confirm the abilities existence based off of his reaction. "Now. You have two options. You can tell me how he obtained this ability and I'll let you leave quietly, or you can struggle and I tell everyone at this festival about the ability. So what's it gonna be?" the clone said. He was proud of this one. If this Buizel knew anything, it would be pretty hard for him not to do something that would give it away.
The Zangoose was feeling a bit of regret.... He had hoped that he wouldn't have to use one of his stronger moves so early on in this tournament. But it was useless trying to fight this Weavile using his normal moves. Unfortunately for him, he had been born into a Form without long-range techniques. So, he had to teach some to himself some. And eventually...he had ended up with a powerful attack that would serve as the perfect counter to his double weaknesses in battle.... A long-range attack that could also inflict some heavy damage when used against a Fighting-type opponent.
At last, it was time to finish his attack. He jumped forward so suddenly and without word or warning. At the same time, he thrust his arms forward, and suddenly the gust of wind sliced forward so forcefully...that if it worked as he planned, then the attack would be thrust forward by his momentum, giving it more speed than usual, and inflict some hefty damage upon his opponent. The move he had used was an Advanced Move he had trained himself to master. Unfortunately, he still had yet to learn a way to wield such power without charging it first. But it didn't matter. He let the Aerial Blast attack fly, hoping to hit his opponent. He had intended to spin it around him and unleash it in a circle to take out all of the clones in a single blow...but since Vito was kind enough to remove them anyway, he unleashed the full force of the attack in his opponent's direction.
~~~~~
Jet thought quickly. He couldn't move...and his opponent seemed to know about Doug's ability to read minds. If they knew that much, what could it possibly hurt to tell them how he got it? Then again...he didn't really remember himself. So, he decided to work with that. He decided that it couldn't hurt to play dumb for a while.... He needed to make sure he didn't accidently betray his friend's trust. "Wh-what...? What are you talking about...!?" he started to act panicked, as though he believed that he was about to be kidnapped or killed or something, and struggled harder. "P-please, just...just let me go! I-I don't have anything of value, and neither do my friends!" His voice was practically quivering in fear. All a part of his act...but he hoped it would work....

Vito quickly rose his claws to defend himself. Of course, his two claws were little match for the Aerial Blast, but at least he could deflect some of the power from hitting most of his body. He found himself skidding backward a few inches, and ended up doubling over to keep from falling down. While this was happening, the tenth clone stepped out from behind his hiding spot behind the pillar. Taking great care not to draw the Zangoose's attention from the real Vito, he positioned himself behind the Zangoose. As the wind settled down from the attack, Vito looked up at the Zangoose. "My turn." The Vito that was behind the Zangoose let out a dark shadow shaped like a Weavile, but it wasn't another clone. It was Spite. If this move were to come into contact with the Zangoose, it would seriously drain his energy. ((Again, sorry about the lack of mentioning what happened to the tenth clone. I meant to post something about it, but then I kept tinkering with my last post and I must have erased it before I posted it. Look! I still put that only 9 clones poofed! And the post before that said that there was 10 clones! I did mean to put something more obvious about it, but I didn't realize it wasn't there until now. )) ------------------------------------------------ "Are you sure about that? Because my sources suggest you do have something of value to me. Are you saying my sources are liars?" The source in question was himself in a way, so under normal circumstances, this would have been a very tricky question for someone. "Now calm down and tell me what you know and this all comes to an end." Vito still couldn't rule out the possibility that this Buizel knew something. What was his name again? He should have known this one. They had gathered intelligence on Doug, so the Buizel's name should have been somewhere in that report. Now what was it...

Marduk looked on at the result of his attack. No doubt...it was very clear that this was the real Vito, and that he had indeed, taken some pretty good damage. He had figured the Weavile would be on his knees, at the very least...but he had hoped that he would be on the ground. That would have made his next move that much easier to use. But before he could get his move started, he watched Vito look up and speak.
Confused for a moment, he picked it up almost immediately. Unfortunately, immediately was too slow. He was struck by the Spite attack, and he winced, forced to fall forward and onto his knee as he felt some of his energy drain from him. "...I must admit, that I did not see that move coming.... Well done." But regardless of his compliment, he was nowhere near finished yet. He charged forward and lifted his claws...then brought them down hard on top of the Weavile, hoping to hit him hard with his powerful Crush Claw attack.
~~~~~
Jet continued to struggle against the Weavile's grip. Despite the Weavile's words, he had to continue to insist that he knew nothing.... It wouldn't be that easy to get information out of a Buizel as clever as he was. He had no idea who was behind him, but if he let out Doug's secret, then all of Doug's competition could use that to their advantage...and it'd be all his fault! "P-please, I-I don't know what you're talking about! I-I'm not saying anything about lies...j-just that I don't know what your 'sources' are talking about! P-please, let me go! I...I'll do anything, just don't hurt me!" He needed this to be as believeable as possible.
The Weavile brought his claws up to defend himself. He had to use both arms, but he managed to stall the attack at least. "I'm starting to get the feeling you aren't trying to out-think me anymore." Vito said as his clone threw another Spite attack at the Zangoose from behind. Though the real Vito was directly under attack by the Zangoose, he still felt confident he had the upper hand.
--------------------------
The clone Vito still wasn't sure how he was going to lose this Buizel. "Look. We already know everything. There's no point in hiding what you know anymore. We already know you know about his abilities at the very least, so I know you're still holding information from me. Now I want what you know or you aren't leaving here in one piece." The Vito held his arm firmly around the Buizel. He had to make this quick. The battle had to have been going on for a while now. If he couldn't get confirmation on this ability, then he needed to drop the information off where the real Vito would find it and finish himself.
Marduk listened to the Weavile's words, but didn't react to them. He didn't even respond. but when the Spite attack came at him, it hit him from behind again, and he winced, feeling more of his energy drain from him. If he kept taking those hits, he'd be too exhausted to keep fighting. But he had confidence in his endurance...and he was sure that if he wanted to, he could crush this Weavile at any point. Then, he finally said something. "There's no point...in trying to out-strategize here...." He said with a growl of effort. "Now it's all...about finishing it." With that, he tried to let up suddenly on one of his claws...and bring it around, aiming at the Weavile's stomach with his fist. If this was successful, then it would be a cinch to swing his knee up to the Weavile's jaw, and continue beating on him with this Close Combat attack.
~~~~~
Jet heard the clone Vito's threat and gulped in fear. Was...was he serious? Now the Buizel's legs were shaking slightly. He was already helpless against the superior strength of this...whoever it was. It would surely be no problem at all for this guy to fatally harm him in some way. But even afraid for his own life...he refused to sell Doug out. He had to continue to play dumb...no matter what the cost! This was far too important to that Abra...he was not about to betray a friend for his own well-being! "P-please, don't kill me!" he whimpered. "I-I swear, I...I have no idea what you're talking about...! J-just let me go...I-I promise I won't say a word to anybody about you...! P-please...!"

The Weavile saw the attack coming, and brought his claw up to his stomach. There he formed an Ice Shard to block the incoming attack. He then threw himself off of the Ice Shard while throwing it at Marduk. It obviously wasn't thrown with much force as it was used more as a defensive tactic at this point, but it would still serve as a distraction enough for the Weavile to put some distance between the two of them.
"Truly the words of someone on their last legs. Are you that dense, really? This has never been about strategy. I've told you before and you didn't listen. Now you're exhausted, and you know why. Between my ability and those spite attacks, you've used up six times as much energy as you normally would have for those two attacks. Say you were good for twenty of those windy attacks? You could maybe pull off four of them while I'm around. Meanwhile I..." at this point, Vito created three more clones. There were now five Vitos on the field, now moving to encircle the Zangoose. The same Vito continued his speech. "I'm used to using these clones for everything. They cook, they clean, they go to the next town to fetch me things. If you don't think I can keep this up, I would be more than happy to prove you wrong, right here and right now."
--------------
The Vito clone was realizing this venture was proving fruitless. He couldn't disprove the existence of this ability the Abra supposedly had, but there was no way to confirm it to any percent certainty. Especially seeing as he didn't know exactly how the original clone had come to the conclusion of this ability. There was nothing left to do but get out of here without being seen. Easy enough.
That's when he saw her. The Blaziken. She was here. And she was staring him down from the other end of the midway. He hadn't counted on that.
Now his options were limited. She was between him and the trailer. Going around would take too long. Attempting to dash around her and slipping the note under the door would draw too much attention. She had been keeping an eye on him. She probably knew Vito's match was going on sometime around this point, so she probably knew he was a clone. And he was interacting with an associate of one of the tournament entries no less. There was no way he would be able to convince her he was someone else. His only option was to make sure he didn't compromise any more information than he already had. He released the Buizel and dashed around the corner, back the way the Buizel had followed him here in the first place. He took out the note, crumpled it up and swallowed it. He would have to make sure he was out of view before he offed himself, but that wouldn't be so hard. He just had to find a bathroom or something, and there were plenty of those around the park.
((Sorry, that was getting a little too back and forth. I hope you don't mind me dragging Deb back into this.))

Vito's actions and words were actually the truth. And Marduk was well aware of that. He was starting to tire out...he normally had amazing endurance. He could keep an even battle for hours without collapsing from exhaustion. He had to concede that this Weavile was stronger than he had expected him to be. Far more powerful. And the Weavile had seen through his words so easily as well. He was definitely as intelligent as his first impression had told him...perhaps even more so. That was indeed quite a...deadly combination. It was quite a challenge...and Marduk quite enjoyed such challenges.
But, he had to keep in mind the reason he was here in the first place. He couldn't simply give in to his primal desires.... That was not what a warrior does. He had to keep his goal in view, or else risk losing himself along the way. And that goal...it was slowly getting closer and closer. He had to finish this soon. One way or another, he was going to bring this to a close. As the Ice Shard came at him, he was able to block it with his own claw and throw it to the side so that it hit the ground. He immediately began to focus. He would give this one final attempt...and hope that this motion would work more in his favor than the last time.
Without a word, he brought his claws in front of him and took a deep breath. He then lowered them and brought them to his sides as the wind started to kick up again. He was going to use his Aerial Blast to, with luck on his side, destroy the opposing clones. And then his assault on the real Weavile could begin...and bring this match to a close.
~~~~~
Jet felt the claws of the Weavile finally release him and he fell forward and onto his knees, breathing heavily. His bluff...had been succesful. The Pokemon must not have had the conclusive evidence that he claimed to have. Otherwise things would have been very terrible for him. If the Weavile had bothered to kidnap him...he could have used him as leverege to get Doug to confess his Power and force him to surrender. He finally let out a breath of relief that he had no idea he was holding.
The Buizel's eyes soon noticed the Blaziken that had battled with Haru. Deborah, if he remembered correctly? Was she the reason his captor had fled so suddenly? If that's the case...perhaps he should go thank her before heading back to Doug. He got back to his feet and dusted himself off...before making his way toward the Blaziken. He hoped she'd stick around long enough to talk to him. He also wanted to ask...something about Haru. Something that he had been wondering ever since watching Haru's opening match.
The Weavile's plan to draw out another powerful attack from the Zangoose was going just as planned. The tricky part would be keeping at least a couple of his clones alive after an attack like this one. He couldn't afford to just hide one of them this time. Like Marduk, he wanted to finish this quickly.
Suddenly Vito felt a burst of energy. Whatever that clone was up to, he wasn't doing it any more. Vito wondered what it could have been that would have held him up so long. No matter. The nice boost in power would be helpful in finishing this opponent off.
All six of the clones used Agility and were prepared to move, but they weren't going to do anything yet. The clones couldn't afford to be hit by the air circling the Zangoose, and Vito himself wasn't going to be risk being hit by a more powerful blast than he needed to. They were much better off testing their odds out where the attack would be more spread out and likely weaker.
----------------
Deborah rushed at the area the Buizel was in and looked around the corner. No sign of the clone. Dang. No point in chasing him anyway. Even if I caught him, he would just take himself out before I could get anything out of him. No, her odds of finding anything out were better by talking to the other one who was involved.
"Hey Buizel!" she said, not bothering to even try to remember this guys name, "I wanna know what just happened between you and that Weavile, and I wanna know why. I'm not in a hurry, so no skimpin' on the details." Deb's forte wasn't exactly investigative interviewing, or tact for that matter, but she knew what she wanted and she wanted to get straight to it even if her source of information was still shaken up about his hostage crisis.
The Zangoose looked around at the six Clones around him. And they each used Agility to increase their likelyhood of evading his attack. That wasn't good.... He only needed one hit on each one. But unfortunately, this was the only distance move he had that could even possible strike more than a single target at the same time. But...he had no idea how he was going to get out of this. He probably wasn't.... In fact, this battle was probably lost when those Spite attacks had hit him. Well...he couldn't say that. He still had a chance. But that didn't matter for what he had in mind....
He released the torrent of air at last. The air whipped around him, and he spun around, unleashing the torrent around himself. The blast would be weakened by the distribution, but all he needed was for them to take any sort of damage and they would disappear. Then he'd have the original in his sights. Of course, this all depended on whether or not his opponent(s) would be able to dodge the attack or not.
~~~~~
The Buizel had been just about to open his mouth and thank the Blaziken for possibly saving him...when she suddenly called him by his species name. He gulped slightly at her question. She wanted to know what they were up to? What could he tell her? Obviously not the complete truth.... If he did that, he'd be revealing Doug's secret. It was bad enough that the Weavile, whom he assumed to be Vito Steel, had suspected some sort of thing. He couldn't let anybody else know about it....
"I-I don't know...." Jet murmured. He wasn't really thinking as hard, now that the life-and-death situation was gone. But perhaps he should focus a bit more. Though that was difficult, since he was still shaking and breathing heavily with relief...though he was in a situation that wasn't that much better. "N-nothing I guess...." he mumbled in a rather low tone that was a rather big give-away. He clearly wasn't putting as much effort into his act as when he was caught by Vito.

The Weavile clones leaped into action as soon as they saw the release of the attack. The clones all split up into three teams of two. From there, one rushed in front of the other and did their best to block the wind from hitting the second clone. The three clones in front were, of course, hit by the attack and were no more. The ones behind, however, were ready to launch their next attack. The three Vitos that were left each launched a spite attack at the Zangoose.
As for the real Vito, he tried to block the attack as best he could. It wasn't all that possible to defend against all of the attack, but that was all a part of his plan. Besides, even if he was severely injured, even the tiny amount of energy he was getting back from the three sacrificial clones would be enough to keep him on his feet. And he was pretty confident that whether the other Spite attacks hit or not, he could finish this pretty easily.
And with that thought, he rushed forward and slammed his shoulder into the body of the Zangoose in a Revenge attack.

Deb stared the Buizel down. She knew when someone was hiding something, and she wasn't one to simply respect someones privacy when it came to that Weavile. "Right. Him holding you like that was just for fun, I suppose. Do you expect me to believe that Weavile just held you back like that just to make small talk? Nuh uh. That Weavile is up to something, and I want to put a stop to it. So what exactly was he trying to do? I doubt a clone would be stupid enough to try to kidnap you on his own, so what was he talking to you about?"

The Zangoose had pretty much expected some form of trickery from the Weavile clones. And as a result, he had been prepared for the worst...but from what had happened before, he already knew what they were going to do next anyway. He jumped into the air, hopefully jumping over the creeping shadows that were the Spite attack. Though this time, as he came down, he was wary of the other Weavile coming at him for an attack. Was this a clone or the real one? It no longer really mattered. He would take a hit wherever he could get one.
As he came down, he tried to match Vito's move...exchanging blows with his Close Combat. He brought his foot forward as he came down and tried to slam it hard into the Dark and Ice-type Pokemon's shoulder with his move...though the force of the Revenge attack sent him back, he hoped that he had done some major damage due to the type advantage his move had. As he was knocked back, he flipped in the air and tried to land on his feet...but he wasn't able to successfully land it, and hit the ground on his stomach. He was on the ground, and he looked up, looking to see where Vito had gone. The lack of a poof made him realize that that was the real Weavile...and losing track of him was out of the question.

Jet winced and looked down again. He had made a pretty lame excuse, and he knew it now. He got the feeling that, if she needed to, she wouldn't hesitate to beat the information out of him. He gulped at the thought and sighed. He wouldn't be able to get away from here without saying a word...but maybe he could say something without betraying Doug's trust? "Okay, okay...." he muttered in defeat. "...W-well...that Weavile...Vito I guess his name was.... He captured me like that and...well, he said that I knew some sort of secret about my friend, who's competing.... I told him I had no idea what he was talking about, but he seemed so insistent.... I don't know what kind of information he got on Doug, but if there was no way he could know something that I didn't about my best friend!" He was starting to get into the act at this point.... Hopefully, this would satisfy the Blaziken....

Vito held his shoulder in pain after taking such a hit from the Close Combat attack. That reaction time was definitely an advantage the Zangoose had in this match. It had allowed the Zangoose to compete with Vito's clones and the little time required to organize them. Still, that Close Combat move required a lot of energy to pull off, making this a perfect opportunity to drain the Zangoose of a lot more energy. The three clones each let out another Spite attack while the Zangoose was on the ground. With the energy expended on those spite attacks, the clones wouldn't be able to do much more, but then again, if those attacks were successful, Marduk would be in the same position.

Deb wasn't the most observant of folks, but she could tell when someone was tiptoeing around a subject. There was something about that Abra that the Buizel didn't want anyone to know about. After all, he never said that he didn't know anything about it. He just said that he had said that. If that makes sense. Whatever it was, it seemed that the Weavile was hot on the trail of it. But why? That Abra didn't seem all that threatening. Even if he DID somehow manage to beat that Empoleon in their match, how tough could he be for that Weavile? The clones should be able to neutralize the Teleporting ability easily. After all, the Abra wouldn't know which one to target anyway. He would have to Teleport to hit all of them, just to narrow the field, and that would expend too much energy. Even she could see that. So why would the Weavile waste his time looking into an enemy this weak?
"There are a few holes in your story, bub... but I don't know if it's anything I need to know. Besides, it wouldn't be polite to ask you to tell me about whatever secret your friend is trying to hide, whether you know anything or not. But I think you know. Because that Weavile seemed to be sure enough that something was up that he would attempt to kidnap you for information, and if there's no way he could know something you don't, then you have to know what it was he was after. But I guess if he couldn't get anything out of you when he had his claw to your throat, I won't get it out of you this way, either. Right?" the Blaziken said with a coy smile on her face. And if she couldn't get anything out of this one, then he would just have to go to a more direct source.
