Marduk was still on the ground as he felt more Spite attacks wash over him, and the majority of what energy he had remaining was now diminished. This was definitely not going well for him in the slightest. This Weavile was strong...very strong. And he had a powerful mind to back it up. Was he even able to get up again and continue the match? He wasn't sure. Something else he wasn't sure of, now more than ever, was whether or not he actually stood a chance against this opponent at all. He had not expected to find an opponent that could rival his own, let alone surpass him. Or perhaps simply he wasn't as powerful as he had believed himself to be. Either way, he was now struggling to his feet, and was only barely able to stay standing, though with a slight stumble. His body was bruised and beaten, and he was breathing heavily.... He couldn't find the energy in his limbs to charge forward just yet. He simply needed a moment to gather his bearings...if his opponent would give him that chance, that is....
~~~~~
Jet was silent as Deb continued to talk. He was taken aback by how she had simply allowed him to get away with what he said. He almost wasn't sure what to say when she was finished. Finally, he snapped out of it. He shook his head and looked the Blaziken up and down. He remembered watching her fight with Haru. She had nearly been able to beat him. There was no crossing her, and he knew it...otherwise he could very well be in for a bad beating. Finally, he decided to speak up. "W-well...I don't know what that Weavile was thinking.... I-I swear I don't know anything...." He looked down and away for a moment, and then wondered if he'd be able to change the subject. "...W-well anyway...thank you.... Really, for the help.... I don't know what that Weavile would have done to me if you hadn't come along and scared him off...."
Vito had no intention of giving his opponent any room to breathe. Still, with the three clones he had left having a very limited supply of energy remaining, he didn't have a lot of options. He had to create new clones.
Unfortunately, these new clones now shared the same injury to the shoulder that the original Vito had, making their left arm relatively useless. It might not have been their dominant arm, but it would still hinder their ability to attack at full strength.
That wasn't an issue though. Vito had plans. He always had plans. The three clones each used the last of their energy to create their own Ice Shard. Then the three of them charged forward to use their Ice Shard as a kind of dagger. Each one of them had an injured Vito clone following close behind it, prepared to slam through the exhausted clones with a Revenge attack as soon as either the Ice Shard attacks made contact, or the Zangoose attacked the exhausted clones in order to prevent them from attacking him.
As far as Vito could tell, the Zangoose didn't look to be in any kind of shape to dodge an attack. Assuming he was correct, this formation covered all of his bases. Either the Zangoose would mount a counter attack to destroy the clones, making the already effective Revenge attack even more powerful, or the Zangoose wouldn't be able to counter attack, in which case he would take both the Ice Shard and Revenge attacks. Even in the clones exhausted and injured state, taking two rounds of three attacks, one after the other, would be hard t withstand. As far as Vito could see, this match was as good as over.
------------------
Deb kept her coy grin. She couldn't help it. "It's okay. You don't have to lie. I know you know something you aren't saying, and you clearly have good reasons for it. Good enough that you wouldn't say anything with a claw to your throat at least. In any case, it was my pleasure to get rid of that scumbag. He really needs to learn his boundaries. Now if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to." Deb said as she turned to walk away in the direction of the first-aid tent. Hopefully they hadn't released that Abra yet. He could be hard to find in a place like this. It wasn't that Deb wasn't accustomed to looking all over the place for the juiciest gossi-
Marduk was up, but it seemed like, as he had expected, the Weavile wasn't going to give him any chance to recover, even after he had taken some heavy damage himself. Not only was this Vito Steele powerful and brilliant, but he was also resiliant. He seemed to be able to take a lot of hits, even from Fighting-type moves, and keep going without hesitation. He rarely seemed to show any signs of weakness, and when they were shown, he was quickly able to cover it up, or it was when he was really in a bad position. Either way, there was no way this fight was going to end well. Regardless, he would fight until the very end. If he was going to lose, he was going to show this Weavile that he was not one who could just be pushed around...he would have to continue working hard for the win he seemed to so desperately desire.
But now it was back to the mundane task at hand. As the three Clones approached him from the front, he got himself ready. Due to his line of sight and exhaustion, he failed to notice the three additional clones following behind the remaining three. He jumped into the air, shoved the Ice Shards the front clones thrust in his direction into the ground, and then slammed his feet hard into the heads of all three. Unfortunately, he had played right into Vito's hands by doing so. He saw the three clones behind the three that just poofed into a cloud of smoke...and he knew that all he could do was just brace himself. He crossed his arms, but that didn't help him much.
The following three Revenge attacks might not have been nearly as strong as they could have been, but they certainly took their toll on his exhausted body. He let out a loud, pained cry as the Revenge attacks found their mark and slammed into him directly. He was easily thrown backward by the force of the attack. He was thrust backward hard enough that, when his back slammed against the ground, he practically bounced and flipped over his head so that he would land flat on his stomach, groaning a bit in pain. This was it. Despite all his strength and all his skill...he had finally been defeated...how could he have let this happen...? How did this Weavile get so strong...? These were the thoughts swarming his exhausted mind as he just lay there on the ground, flat on his stomach, not even five feet from where the Clones had hit him.
~~~~~
Jet looked up at the Blaziken. It was almost as though she could read his mind...but no, if she had an ability like that, she wouldn't have needed to ask him about what the Weavile had wanted. She probably wanted to know just as much about Doug as he did...why did everybody suddenly have this sudden interest in Doug...? He just...didn't get it. Well, he had to head back now. He had to make sure Doug was still alright. After all, he'd left him alone in that tent with an apparent entire tournament of people that wanted nothing more than to discover the Abra's secrets. The Weavile was already long gone, so there was no way he'd be able to track him down again. He had no choice. He turned around and started to scamper past Deb, back toward the first-aid tent. He needed to get back and explain to him everything tha happened. He scurried right past Deb in his rush to leave the site of his hostage situation...he just had nothing on his mind but getting back to Doug.

Vito looked down at the Zangoose, now with a slight grin on his usually intense face. "Pff. After what you did to Haru I expected more. Disappointing."
The Loudred announcer took a good look at the combatants. He wasn't sure how he felt about it, but it didn't look like the Zangoose was going to get back up at this point. "The winner of this match is... Vito Steele." he said in his loud, booming voice. And so, satisfied with his win (but only barely) Vito left the arena. He already knew the outcome of the next match wouldn't be noteworthy, and he had other business to attend to.
And with that the Machop paramedics were on their way out with the stretcher, making their way to Marduk to see if he would need assistance removing himself from the field.
-----------------
Deb let the Buizel scurry past. She wasn't going to try to beat him to the Abra. That would be silly, and wouldn't help her case at all. She would probably give them a few minutes alone before coming in. Maybe even wait until that annoying Buizel left. Sure, the Buizel would probably talk about how she wanted his secrets, but why not let him talk? The only reason she could think of was if she had something to hide. And she couldn't have that Abra thinking she had something to hide. Not if she was going to get him to trust her.

The Zangoose looked up at the Vito and saw the look on his face. He felt disappointed in himself for letting himself fall to somebody like this. He had seriously underestimated this Weavile, and he had to remember never to do that again. But he said something that interested him. He mentioned Haru...that Lucario he had crushed in the first round? Were these two related in some way? It was something to look into. He doubted he would get any information from the Weavile, so he'd have to make a note to inquire about this to the Lucario whenever he got the chance. It was then that the Loudred's announcement reached his ears, and he let his head fall back to the ground again. It was true...he wasn't going to be able to get back up after that last attack. He allowed the Machop paramedics to lift him onto the stretcher to carry him off toward the hospital tent.
Meanwhile, up in the stadium, one surprised Lucario was standing, arms crossed, clutching at his arms tighter than he should have been. "...N-no way...." he muttered to himself, eyes widened slightly in surprise at the results he had just seen. Vito had managed to beat down that Zangoose...the one that Haru had found himself helpless against. How...? How could Vito have gotten so strong!? He growled and muttered to himelf, "...No, it must have been a fluke. It was a close fight, and it could have gone either way. Plus he had the chance to watch the Zangoose's moves...yeah, I don't have anything to worry about. I'll still crush Vito when the time comes." With that, Haru turned around and walked toward the stadium's exit; he wasn't in any mood to watch the next match, despite it being two fighters who were still undefeated.
~~~~~
Jet finally managed to get back to the hospital tent, and looked around. Was Doug still here? He hoped so...it would be difficult to find a Teleporting Abra through such a big crowd. "Hey, Doug...are...are you still around...?" He hoped Doug hadn't gone out after him, and then just missed him or something. He needed to relay what just happened to him to his friend. This was important and it needed to be passed on as soon as possible.
"AND WITH THAT, I'M PROUD TO ANNOUNCE TO YOU THE FINAL MATCH OF THE DAY. DAAAAAAAAAMON AND JAAAAAAREK!" The Loudred announced. The crowed erupted at the idea of the two undefeated mysterious combatants taking the field against each other.
Jarek was nervous though. It was weird because he never got nervous for a fight. But this wasn't a real fight. This was him having to take part in lying and cheating the system. "The game" as he heard some guys call it once. Right before he and Damon made sure to "get them before they get us" as Damon had put it. At least, as far as Jarek could remember. Usually Jarek just had to play along, nod a few times, and maybe punch a few things. Or people. Whatever Damon decided. Damon made all of the decisions. And Jarek was okay with that.
He was okay with it because it usually meant he didn't have to think that much. But now he did. He had to make sure people thought they were really fighting. Hesitantly, Jarek stood up and made his way to the pillar in the middle of the field.
-------
"I'm right here, Jet." Doug said from the front corner of the tent. Motioning Jet to come over to him. "I've been picking up that the nurses here are intentionally holding tournament entrants longer than usual just to make extra sure they're in tip-top shape or something. At least this seems to be the place to be. Everyone is in here at one time or another, I swear." Doug was relieved to have company he could talk openly to. He was getting a little sick of the drama that seemed to surround this tournament.
Damon looked around at the arena. All these idiotic fools standing around, thinking that they were about to bear witness to a match of greatness between two undefeated opponents. Little did they know that he had already decided on the outcome. Normally, he would have given everything he had to ensure his position in the tournament. But no, this was a special case. He had an agreement with his opponent, and he was going to go through with it. It was the best way to carry out what he had planned. He stepped out into the arena, blade-arms folded across his chest, looking out at the Machamp that stood against him. The big brute was very powerful in his own right. But Jarek stood no chance against him if he decided to go at his full power. Those mighty muscles of his would do absolutely no good against somebody he couldn't hit.
He looked the big brute up and down. He wondered if he'd be able to be okay with this. He wasn't sure if he could trust this kind of thing to somebody like him. Then again, they'd never gone over anything as much as they had about this plan. Surely he had hammered the importance of this match in his head enough. He should know exactly what to do. Damon looked down to see that he was standing right where he needed to be for the fight to start. The biggest burden of this fight would be on himself...well, he'd just have to see how this worked out. He looked over at the Loudred. "Come on now, we don't have all day. I'd like to knock this big oaf down a peg or two before the sun falls."
~~~~~
Jet looked over and saw Doug motioning him over. He smiled a bit to himself and walked over to his friend. he hopped up onto a nearby chair and looked at the Abra. He would have liked to continue shooting the breeze with him, and just forget about everything that had just happened, but he couldn't. Doug needed to know. "L-Listen Doug...about what you sent me out to do...." He looked around to make sure nobody was eavesdropping. With that, he started explaining to Doug in detail everything that had happened from the moment he'd left the tent chasing after that Weavile to Deborah rescuing him, possibly saving his life.

The Loudred was taken aback at not only the Scyther's slightly disrespectful tone toward himself, but his arrogance. It was as though he hadn't seen what the Machamp had done to his opponent in his previous match. Even with the Scyther's speed, if the Scyther made a false move it could very well be the last move he made all day. Then again, the Machamp didn't seem too bright. He didn't really seem the type to be able to make a plan to catch someone off guard. The Loudred nodded "Right then... WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LET THE FINAL MATCH OF THE DAY BEGIN!"
Jarek rushed at Damon, his arms throwing punches at a near impossible rate. Still, they were punches that Damon could dodge easily. They had to be. Jarek wasn't supposed to hit Damon at all. Not that Jarek was all that sure he COULD really hit Damon.
----------------
Doug half listened to Jet as he told his story of how things went down. The other half of him was focused on the thoughts he had since Jet had left, and the ones that he could hear now. He didn't need Jet to tell him that his secret was safe, but only for the time being. There was someone else nearby who had Doug on their mind, and from the sound of it, it had to be Deb.
For a split second, Doug felt the thought get stronger, as though there were now another person focused on finding the Abra. A person who was getting closer, but it seemed like they weren't making their way directly to the First-Aid tent, whoever they were... or maybe Doug had just imagined it. Doug knew he had been imagining Vito everywhere since Jet left to chase down that one Vito clone. It certainly wasn't the first time he had imagined things like that, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.
"So Deb saved you and got rid of the Vito clone. I guess we do owe her something then. The least we can do is thank her, and maybe have a little chat. Exchange some information. Maybe she knows something about all the weird stuff that's been going on around here." Doug offered. He felt like he knew how to deal with this situation, and at least get Deborah off of their backs for a while if she became a problem. One thing was for sure though. This tournament was getting to be a bit much. Doug felt that he would bring up the idea of an escape plan from the festival grounds if things got too hot to handle, but he wouldn't dare utter a word about that within the earshot of anyone. That could wait until they were back at the trailer.

As the match started, Jarek was already on the move. Impressive for somebody with the intelligence level like his. As Jarek threw his wild punches, Damon was able to dodge them with the greatest of ease. He was doing well, he had to admit. At least he seemed to still understand what he had to do. But then again, the burden of how this fight would go was on him as well, and he had to make sure that everything went as he planned. "Alright, you big oaf, if that's the best you can do, then I'm surprised that you managed to crush that Blaziken at all." With that, he ducked down low underneath another punch and then suddenly jumped up at the Machamp, attacking him with a Wing Attack...although, he did not use his full power or speed in the attack. It was more for show than for accuracy or power.
~~~~~
Jet nodded. "I was starting to think the same thing, but...I figured I should get back to you first." he looked around the room and noticed the lack of patients. "...I wonder where the others are.... The other match should have ended by now, so where's whoever lost? Wait...come to think of it, that Zangoose and Vito were the ones that were supposed to be fighting in that match.... And yet Vito felt safe decreasing his power by leaving all these clones behind. I wonder...how he fared against that Zangoose at such a disadvantage...."
The Machamp made a grab for the Scyther with his upper left hand. Luckily for him, the plan was short and easy to remember. This was where things got tricky though. The Machamp slammed his right fists against the pillar. He then continued to pummel the pillar, starting from where he hit it, and moving down as the dent he was making in the side got bigger. He needed to make sure the pillar fell toward them. It was going to take a little while.
------------------------------
"I don't know. That Zangoose was pretty strong. Strong enough to take down Haru without too much effort." Doug thought back to his match with Haru. Sure, he managed to win, but not without burning down a few trees. He had spent most of the match on defense. He didn't want to think about what might happen in a match between him and that Zangoose, but Vito wasn't exactly high on the list of people he wanted to fight either. Those clone's mere existence could neutralize Doug if the Weavile knew about Doug's ability. "I'm not sure I like the idea of fighting either of them in the next round."
As the Scyther tried to slash at the Machamp with his razor-tipped wings, he found himself stopped. Damon felt Jarek's muscled grip wrap tightly around his upper body, mostly his chest, and he was stuck in place. He let out a lound growling noise as he tried to pull himself free from the Machamp's grip. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the Machamp strike with the fists on his other side...but they weren't aimed at him. He had started pummeling the pillar beside them. That was certainly a good sight. But now he had to find a way to pull free. Luckily, he was still able to use his arms. He raised one and quickly brought it back down at the Machamp's side with a Slash attack.
~~~~~
Jet nodded at Doug's words. He had a point. It wasn't very likely that Vito would be able to defeat that Zangoose. After all...if what he gathered was true, then Vito had been defeated once by Haru, and the Zangoose defeated Haru. Logically thinking, that would mean that the Zangoose was stronger than Vito, right? ...No, there was one other factor that that didn't count for. Time. It had been quite a long time since Haru had defeated Vito, and they had no way of knowing just how strong Vito had become since losing to Haru. He shouldn't count the Weavile out until he saw the results for himself. "Yeah, I understand. I'm starting to wish I hadn't chickened out of trying out for this tournament. I could've been helping you fight these guys...."
Just then, the tent was opened and a stretcher was rolled in. This attracted Jet's attention and he turned around in his seat to look at it. What he saw was surprising. The Machop were rolling in a very badly beaten Zangoose. Jet couldn't help himself. He uttered a surprised, "Wh-what...? No way...." Vito had actually managed to defeat the Zangoose that had beaten Haru.... Did that mean that Vito was the strongest out of the three of them...? Then again, the only way to find that out for sure was for Vito and Haru to finally fight...but looking at the brackets the way they are, that wasn't likely to happen anytime soon.... Jet shook his head and returned himself to reality. He looked on as a nurse came over and started checking on the Zangoose's condition. But now Jet was wondering something else...he had noticed something that wasn't there to be noticed. "...Where's Vito?" he muttered.

((Hmm... I wasn't thinking Damon would actually be trying to pull free. :/ Especially seeing as this is Damon's plan, perhaps a bit of communication is in order? I don't know. Drop me a PM or something. XD If what you're planning involves Damon breaking free, by all means do it. I had something else in mind, but it's not a genius idea or anything.))
The Machamp ignored the Slash and continued pummeling the pillar. He was nearing the point where a single kick could topple the pillar in either direction. The stage was set. And the sooner they could finish this up, the better. Jarek wasn't so sure he could keep this up much longer.
---------------------
"Vito is back in his trailer by now," Deb said having just walked into the tent. "That being said, he'll probably start sending his clones back out soon, so as tactless as it may be I feel it would be best to get this over with as quickly as possible." At this point, Deb took a good look around to make sure the nurses were all preoccupied with the Zangoose on the other side of the tent. She leaned in a bit closer and made sure to keep her voice low. "You have a secret." She stated bluntly, yet still in a way that seemed to ask for confirmation.
Doug was already prepared for this. Conversations like this were easier when you could narrow down what the person on the other end was thinking about. At this point, Doug was going to guess that Deb wasn't one of the people thinking about painkillers and pillows. And although he himself could be thinking about Jet's encounter with Vito, it was likely that her thoughts were along the same line. Given the situation, of course.
"I suppose there isn't much chance hiding that from you at this point. What with you having to save Jet from that Weavile. Yeah, I guess I have something I would like to keep away from public knowledge if at all possible."
"And I suppose I would be intruding by asking what that might be, as opposed to snooping around until I figure it out?" Deb said, with a bit of a grin.
Doug gave himself a second to think about it. With her snooping around, it would be likely that someone would notice her snooping and that could lead to more people trying to figure out whats up. He had to make an attempt to kill that at it's source. "Hm... I'm not sure. Jet, you've spent a bit more time around her. I don't think she seems to be the type to sell us out on something like this. What do you think?"

((Yeah, he's not actually TRYING to pull free, but he's making it look a bit more convincing. xP If it's obvious that he's taking the dive, then it will attract the attention of others.))
As his blade slashed at the Machamp, he didn't hear a single peep of pain. Heh...perhaps even he had underestimated the Machamp's abilities. Oh well. All the better to proceed with the plan. "Darn it...." he growled as Jarek kept his firm grip. He looked at the condition of the pillar and saw that it was ready to be toppled at a moment's notice. Good, good. This brute was actually doing what was right...for a change. He pulled at the Machamp's grip, still stuck firm in his tight hand.
~~~~~
Jet looked back and forth between Doug and Deb as the two started to converse. It looked like Doug was thinking the exact same thing that he was. When Doug turned to him to ask for his opinion, he stopped and thought for a moment. This was a difficult decision. After all, this was a big secret, and to be honest, he felt special for being the only one who knew. But he knew that if this Blaziken just started snooping around, people might get curious and it would make things more difficult for them. This Deb didn't seem like such a bad character by herself. But what if she was working with somebody?
That turned Jet's attention to the combatants in the tournament. There weren't many that were really compatible with this mold. Obviously Doug knew nothing about her. Ansgar didn't seem the type to need her. She obviously wasn't with Vito. Haru wasn't the type to take help from anybody. He glanced over at the Zangoose. What about Marduk? He knew very little about him, so it's possible that these two knew more about each other than they were letting on. But then again, the Zangoose seemed like a nice enough guy and didn't seem the type to want to wish them harm. And then there was Jaer, but he seemed to be in the same category as Haru. Tali was in it for one obvious reason, so she was out. That left just the other two out there. Jet knew absolutely nothing about Damon and Jarek. What if they were in league with her...? But the harder Jet thought about it, the less likely it seemed.
Jet then went over the events that had taken place in the last five minutes or so. Trying to recall any bits of body language, actions or dialogue that would betray any kind of hidden motive. He couldn't think of anything, no matter how hard he tried, outside of her coy smirks and grins. But that could just be due to her own personal satisfaction. Besides, she seemed like a clever bird. If she wanted to, he had a feeling that she could figure it out eventually. And again, her snooping around could attract some unwanted attention. He nodded to himself.
"...W-well...I still don't really trust her completely, as there are still a couple of gaps in my reasoning...." Jet muttered, looking over at Deb. "...But she did just save me from Vito, and she hasn't shown any real signs of hostility toward us. Plus, Haru seems to think she's a good warrior. Haru may be...well...Haru, but I think he knows what he's talking about; after all, he did actually already fight her.... Overall, I guess it would be okay to tell her...."
Jarek was as ready as he would ever be. He took a deep breath and kicked through the pillar. As he thought, the pillar began falling toward the two of them. Jarek lowered his fist in preparation for thrusting it upward toward the falling pillar, but as he did this, he took his index finger, and flicked the Scyther's head, then made sure that his finger was sticking upward. When he finally threw his fist in the air, the pillar only made contact with his index finger. Even with only the force of one of the Machamps digits, the pillar split in two pieces, which fell on the ground around the Machamp.
Jarek was pretty sure he had done exactly what he was told to do. Then again, he was only supposed to flick Damon's head hard enough to leave a bruise. Nothing the first-aid staff here couldn't handle in a jiffy, but a mark nonetheless. But he was a little nervous... and he wasn't all that good a gauging his own strength to begin with. But then, Damon had probably accounted for that already when he made the plan. He usually did. His part of the job done with, he dropped the Scyther to the ground.
------
Doug would have smiled, but he couldn't. Once again, Jet told him everything he needed to know. Too many variables. They didn't know enough about what was going on to trust Deb completely. Still, she didn't appear to be hostile. "Alright," Doug sighed, "I guess I can let you into the loop." The loop. There's an interesting expression I haven't used yet. Hmph. Modern language. Doug thought to himself. Unless Jet was thinking it for some reason. Which would be an odd thing for Jet to be thinking given the circumstances. Shucks, it was an odd thing for him to be thinking as well. "We're humans. Jet and I, that is." Doug finally whispered.
Deb was a bit taken aback. If not disappointed. When she heard the word "Secret", she had expected something a bit more scandalous. She had heard about humans, creatures from another world... something like that, but as far as she was concerned, she didn't care much about them. Still, given some of the stories she had heard, she could understand why these two might be hesitant to give out that kind of information. Even though the Wish Festival wasn't patrolled by the Dimensional Guard directly, it didn't mean they didn't have eyes and ears around the park. Not to mention the public view of humans in general. If nothing else, this seemed to at least provide a good explanation to what these two were hiding. "Really? That's it? That's what all this running around is about?" She asked the two of them.
Damon looked up and watched as the pillar came down at him. This dunce of a Machamp had best know what he was doing! He felt the Machamp's finger flick his head, and he let out a small grunt of pain. It wasn't much, though perhaps the Machamp had used a bit more power than he had intended, it was good enough for the job. He looked up at the falling pillar and saw it shatter above his head from the Machamp's might. "GRAH!" he cried out as the pillar broke, giving the distinct appearance to anybody around the arena that it had slammed hard on top of him and them subsequently shattered from the impact against the muscle keeping Damon in place. As the rubble fell to the ground around them, he felt the Machamp's grip loosen on him and he fell to the ground with a loud thud. He fell on top of a shattered part of the pillar, laying with his stomach across it at Jarek's feet. He let out a grunt of effort as he tried to get back to his feet, but he ended up falling back down. After all, even if it wasn't an actual move, a Bug- and Flying-type Pokemon such as himself would take heavy damage from a falling rock like that. It was virtually the same thing as a Rock Tomb or Rock Throw move, after all.
Jet looked over at Doug as he told Deb their "secret," and he kept his inner smile a secret. He had to admit, Doug surprised him there...but he knew by now that to be surprised was to be expected when it came to Doug. He looked up at Deb and saw her reaction...he took it that she hasn't seen any humans lately. He couldn't help but smile a bit at the thought of Haru. He couldn't help but wonder what she would say if they told her that Haru was, in actuality, a human just like them?
"Y-yeah...that's it. Th-that's why I was so confused.... I had no idea why that Weavile would go to such extremes like that." Jet rubbed the back of his head. "I-I mean...even if he wanted confirmation about that, I don't know why he'd need to go so far as to threaten to kill me.... The thing I was afraid of was that he was part of that Dimensional Guard I've heard so much about. S-so I didn't want to tell him anything. W-wait...you're not part of the Guard or anything...are you?" He looked up at Deb. "I-I mean...Haru is strong enough to fight with the Guard, and you came close to beating him, even though he ended up winning in the end...." He then realized what he was saying and should probably keep his mouth shut and not say anymore. He had unintentionally brought up one of her defeats, which probably wasn't going to go over well with a person like her. She seemed very much like Haru....
The Loudred announcer took a good look at the Scyther. He didn't appear to be moving. That went much faster than I thought "And the winner of the final match of the day is... JAREK"
The crowd, which had been silent with anticipation up to that point erupted into cheering. All except for one member of the crowd which had ran onto the battlefield along with the Machops with the stretcher. A Seedot with a monocle a curly little mustache. "I KNEW IT. I KNEW it was a bad idea to allow your tournament onto my exhibit! That pillar will take WEEKS to repair!" The Machop paid no attention and continued to run to the fallen Scyther. The Seedot marched right up to the Machamp to continue his rant. "What did you think you were doing when you broke that pillar. I DEMAND an explanation."
Jarek wasn't prepared to react to this at all "Well I uh..." the Machamp stuttered out.
At this point the Loudred butted in, attempting to mitigate the situation. "Our apologies sir. We, the tournament staff, weren't prepared for this. We assure you, we will do our best to provide workers to help clear this mess up." Which I guess means they won't have time to finish up fixing our own arena. The Loudred thought to himself.
"You had better. I surely wouldn't allow you to get away with destroying such an historically accurate replica of a confirmed Hirukan monument." the Seedot shot back. "And I certainly won't allow you to hold your tournament here again!"
-----------------------
Deb grumbled a bit at the mention of her fight with Haru. It wasn't so much that she had lost as the circumstances of the loss. This tournament was quickly becoming a puzzle as far a Deb was concerned, but she was going to make sure she came out on top, one way or another.
"Anyway, if that's it, that's all I came for, so I suppose I should leave the two of you alone. Unless you had anything you wanted to ask me." Deb said, ready to turn and leave.
Doug shook his head. "I can't think of anything. What about you, Jet?"
The Scyther simply layed there, still too weak to get up himself. He couldn't help but smirk inwardly, however. Jarek had done very well. He would have to remember to tell him so later tonight. Although, he couldn't help but wonder...just where was the next match going to be held? Surely another Arena somewhere around here...but where would it be set up? Well, he supposed the only way to find out was to wait and see. As the Machop lifted him and put him on a stretcher, he couldn't help but think how stupid and gullible this crowd was. Just listen to them cheering for Jarek. He was no doubt the favorite to win the tournament at this rate. Heh...if only they knew....
Jet thought for a moment as Doug asked him the question. There were loads of questions he had that didn't have answers, but he doubted that she would have many of them. Although, there WAS one thing that had been bothering him ever since Deb saved him from Vito. "W-well, there might be this ONE little thing...." He looked up at Deborah. "...D-do you know anything about Vito that's not already public knowledge? The way you were acting about him before made it seem like you knew who he was...I mean, more so than anybody else...."
Deb thought about it for a moment. She indeed knew a lot about Vito. But was she going to tell them anything? Nah. She didn't go around gathering information about someone just to hand it to any Tom, Dick, or Harry that happened to ask for it. Information was always her weapon of choice. But information is a tricky weapon. To be effective, it needed to be concealed until the precise moment it would be most effective.
"I don't think so. All I know is that he's everywhere, and he seems to be meddling in everyone's business."
And with that she paused for a moment and left, in a bit of a huff.
"That was interesting." Doug said with a smirk. To those who knew him, it was pretty clear he felt he had something figured out. He looked across the room at Marduk. He hadn't decided to worry about it until now, but the fact that the Zangoose had come in on a stretcher and that there was no sign of Vito anywhere meant pretty clearly that he was going to have to fight Vito tomorrow. He didn't know much about the Weavile at all, but from what he knew about the Zangoose, this wasn't going to be an easy match if he managed to take Marduk down. He continued staring across the room, trying to formulate a plan.
Jet heard what Deb said and nodded a bit. "W-well, I guess that makes sense...." he mumbled to nobody in particular. Of course, he knew there was more to it than that. A LOT more, to be exact. It was fairly obvious to him that there was a lot more than what the surface showed him. This Deborah was certainly involved somehow...but he wasn't entirely sure about it. He didn't actually have any physical proof that she was holding something back, after all. He just...had that feeling that she knew something she wasn't telling. He could think of dozens of reasons as to why she might withold some information...but he wouldn't voice any of them around. Either way, his head buzzed with suspicion.
"Interesting is one way to put it...." Jet muttered. He saw the look on Doug's face...but he wasn't sure what to think of it. Sure, he knew the look...but sometimes it was impossible to tell what was going on inside of his head. "...I just wonder what she's hiding." His mind was still focused on Deborah, taking apart and dissecting every word she had said, and every event that had led up to this moment. He was about 80% sure Deb knew something she wasn't saying, and he knew that the Weavile knew about Doug's ability. But would that scene, where Vito had him in an apparant life-and-death scenario, be enough to convince the Weavile that he honestly didn't know anything? He doubted it. But he certainly did show him that he wasn't going to be threatened into talking...so he'd still be surprised if he was captured again. Even if he was...he felt like he'd be prepared next time.
He was suddenly snapped out of it when he saw Doug was now looking across the room. He followed his gaze and came upon Marduk. He saw the sorry state the Zangoose was in and gulped a bit. He remembered the fight between Marduk and Haru in the opening round. Haru had been barely able to lay a paw on this guy. And then Vito managed to beat him? Haru was scary enough...he couldn't even begin to imagine the full depths of a power like that...especially as an enemy.
"...W-well, I know you're going to have a hard time with Vito...." he said aloud. "...Not only was he skilled enough to take down Marduk...b-but he's a Dark-type too. So any of those extra Psychic abilities aren't going to help you. You'll have to rely on your old methods...without any of the extra kick. And it's going to be even harder since he can clone himself...." Jet thought long and hard about any possible weaknesses that may lie in the heart of the Weavile's fighting style. But...he knew far too little about him. In the end, he couldn't come up with much. "A-and if he's suspicious about your mind-reading ability...then he might try to use that to his advantage. I...I hate to say it, but...I don't think there IS a counter-strategy. You might just have to...tough it out somehow. B-but it's no big deal...I-I mean, even if you DO lose...you've only lost once so far...s-so you're still pretty safe." He had tacked on that last statement as an afterthought in the hopes that any pressure he may have unwittingly put on Doug would have lifted a bit.
In the end, all it served to do was place more emphasis on his doubt.
"Yes... I guess things are a little dark at this point." Doug thought back to his recent victory. He knew Ansgar had let him have the win in the end, which meant Doug hadn't actually won that match. He hadn't won at all in this tournament, really. "But no matter how you slice it, I have to make a good showing tomorrow." Doug was beginning to look at the bigger picture. As the clear underdog in tomorrows match, he could strike a severe blow in Vito's reputation if he could put up a decent fight against him. He had to. "Either way, I'm more worried about what Vito is planning at this point, going around interrogating people like that. Something is definitely up, and just because Deb might not be directly out to get us doesn't mean we aren't in danger now because of what I told her. We still can't trust very many people here."
"And given the circumstances, we may want to try to get a warning out to Haru as well. If this blows up in our faces, then we might be putting him in a bit of danger too. We should try to at least give him a heads up, if we can." I guess we can't really afford to lower our guard anymore, at all. Doug thought to himself. Not that he was expecting a worry free festival, but he hadn't really planned on things like this, what with Jet getting attacked.
--------------------
Deb wandered into the tent city set up near the festival, where many people attending and working at the festival were staying. She made a beeline for the tent where Damon and Jarek were staying, opened the flaps, and walked in. "Damon? You guys need another report tonight, or can I go to bed already?" Deb knew that if they had wanted another report, now was the time to do it, before Vito was actively patrolling the festival again. Not that Vito would be patrolling this area. Damon had done his best to make sure that wouldn't happen. He had his ways, she was assured, and she believed him. Besides, he was the one who was paying her, so if he flubbed something like that up that was his fault. She still would receive compensation, so it didn't matter to her. He was the one who asked her to risk coming to the tent to report on a nightly basis. Were she the one doing the planning up, she would have ceased contact with this guy at least 50 miles away from the location of the festival, no matter what "methods" he had in mind.
"Damon? You here? I want to make this quick!" she said a bit louder. He knew being here at all made her nervous. Why was he keeping her waiting like this?
((You don't have to take Damon if you don't want, or Jarek... but at least take one of them. Both if possible. Sorry I didn't ask you about this before. X( ))
