Janice woke in what looked like a giant empty field apart from a few trees, and a dirt path nearby. Was she unconscious? Where was she? The last thing she could remember was walking into that portal and that mysterious voice's promise of "a new beginning". She still had memories of her life before she took the portal, so that was a total lie. She was still going to be haunted by the memory of that terrible scream and her poor little sister's cold dead body collapsing onto the floor. Janice could already feel the tears forming in her eyes again. She looked at the necklace she wore.
"Alice... I'm so sorry..." Her voice was choked up and her words full of sorrow. "I never meant for this to happen to you... She began to burst out crying. She layed down at the base of a nearby tree that she had just woken up near. "I was just too afraid! It should've been me! You had your whole life ahead of you! You could've done something great, you could've grown up, and fallen in love and I just let someone take that chance from you!!" Janice was distraught. She had never cried this much in her life. She buried her face in what she thought where her hands.
"Wh- what...?" The girl said aloud to herself. She stood up suddenly and looked back to see.... "A t- tail!?" She shouted out in astonishment. She spun around to see a little more of herself. She was not a human anymore, that much was sure. She was walking on four legs, she had a snout, and a large poofy tail that spread like a fan. This didn't make any sense anymore. She was a Vulpix!

The clouds that filled the sky cast a bit of a dreary atmosphere. Very few rays of sunshine actually managed to permeate the cloudy barrier and connect with the ground below. In fact, it looked like rain would be falling before the day was done. It wasn't really cold, so snow was highly unlikely. The field around Janice was somewhat barren, save for the grass, occasional tree, and branching pathway. It was certainly something that wasn't seen in the regular, human world she was so familiar with. Although surely there were all sorts of fields similar to this somewhere in that world.
Soon enough, however, it became apparant that Janice was not alone. A loud cry filled the air. "H-help...!" came the cry of what seemed to be a small Pokemon. Rather suddenly, a yellow mass finally revealed itself. If one looked closely, they would realize that it was a Joltik. This Joltik was just over half the size Janice currently was. In pursuit of this small, frightened Pokemon was a Cranidos. "Get back here you little thief...!"
The Joltik had an Oran Berry clamped in her jaws, and she was scuttling away as fast as her tiny tick legs could carry her. As a Bug-type, it would be very bad if this Cranidos managed to catch her. Unfortunately, that could be any second at this rate. As they continued their little chase, the Joltik saw Janice up ahead and her eyes lit up with hope. She made a beeline straight for the Vulpix and jumped behind her as quickly as he could, cowering a bit. "P-please, you have to help me...! H-he wants to squish me...!" She whimpered.
Meanwhile, the Cranidos had managed to catch up to the two. He glared at the Vulpix that was now standing between him and the Joltik he wanted to punish. "Outta the way, kid." he growled menacingly "That kid's got something of mine." So now that left Janice with her first decision...one that was forced on her. This Cranidos was not only very menacing and intimidating...but he was also a Rock-type. Making him angry might not end very well....

Janice couldn't ponder what was going on for very long before she heard a cry for help. Soon enough, the Yellow Spider made its way into her view. Before she knew it, she was standing in the middle of a fight. Her mind was immediately adverted from what it was focused on before. "I-I don't want any trouble...!" She uttered out nervously. She turned to the Joltik "C-can't you just give him back his berry?" The Vulpix stuttered. Janice didn't know what to do. She didn't want to see this Joltik hurt, but she didn't want to hurt the Caranidos who just wanted his berry back. Janice was trembling nervously now. She herself might end up getting seriously hurt. "I-I just want to know what's going on!" The poor pokemon was completely overwhelmed. Her sister was brutally murdered in front of her eyes, she's trapped in some strange dimension, she was turned into a Vulpix and could understand other pokemon and now she had to worry about this! All she wanted now was to go home and forget this ever happened! Why did she have to enter that portal!?
Janice looked back at the Joltik "I-I'm so sorry. I don't want you to get hurt, but you are going to if you don't give that berry back!" Her only hope of solving this without violence was convincing this Spider to give up the berry and try and find some of her own. "Isn't there some sort of forest around here where you can find berries yourself?" Janice supposed this bug-type could've accidentally gotten into this situation by doing just that, and maybe she would give up the berry more easily if that was the case. Janice turned to the Caranidos "I- I'm sure she didn't mean to steal the berry..." she tried to defend the Joltik as best as she could, but if it elevated into a battle, she didn't know what she could do. She had no idea how to fight as a Vulpix. She didn't even know how to fight as a human! Nobody's ever tried to pick a fight with her, and she hoped she wouldn't have to pick a fight herself.

The Joltik jumped when she was suddenly spoken to. She wasn't really comfortable with the situation herself...but then something Janice said caught her attention. "B-but that's a lie...!" she exclaimed in a bit of a whimper. "I-I found this Berry on a tree, a-and he came up and called me a thief! Th-the forest doesn't belong to him! I-I didn't steal anything! B-besides, my brother needs this, I can't just give it up!" The Joltik seemed very insistent on his story. Was this a lie to keep the Berry she wanted, or was she really getting in trouble for nothing?
"Stupid kid." the Cranidos growled, stamping his foot into the dirt in frustration. "That tree was in MY territory, so that makes it MY Berry. Got that? Now if you know what's good for you, you'll give me back my Berry! It was the last one on the tree, and I will NOT give it up to some stupid little runt trying to be all big by stealing from me! Now hand it over!" The Joltik shook his head, and the Cranidos rolled his eyes. "Fine then!" He glared at Janice again. "Now get out of my way before I beat YOU too!"
The Joltik looked just as frightened as before at the Crandios' words. "N-no please, don't hurt me, I really need this Berry...!" She looked fearfully up at Janice. "P-please, you have to help me...!" This Joltik seemed really desperate...and she simply refused to give up this Berry.

Upon hearing that the Joltik needed the berry for her brother, Janice was immediately reminded of her sister once again. At least this girl was actually doing something to save her brother. All Janice did was stand there and watch her sister die. She shook her head. This wasn't the time to cry. She didn't know how quickly this Joltik's brother needed the Oran Berry. She looked at the Caranidos. "Please, she needs the berry! I don't know how bad it is, but it sounds serious. I know how painful it is to lose a sibling forever. You wouldn't make an innocent girl like this go through that pain would you?" Janice's words were pointless. This man did not seem like the kind of guy to feel guilty.
Janice felt intimidated when she heard the threat this Caranidos threw out at her. She took a few steps backward nervously. "I-i-if you let her have the berry, I- I could help you find more! I could find a lot of berries for you in trade for just that one." Janice didn't know what she was getting herself into. She didn't even know where any berry trees could be found in this dimension, but she couldn't think of anything else to do. It would be nothing but cruel if this spider was lying. "Think about it, you'd be getting a whole second tree's worth of berries for giving up this one!" Janice hoped this would be enough to convince the Caranidos to let it go. Otherwise, this situation could become much more serious.

The Joltik looked up with a smile at the Vulpix as she seemed to start protecting her. But before she could say anything, the Cranidos stamped his foot again. "Ahrite, if that's how you wanna play it, fine. Stupid kid.... Good luck finding a Berry not already owned by another Pokemon around these parts. They're pretty rare in these parts, and it's not like berries just grow overnight. But enough about that...I've had it with this. I'm sick of waiting."
He growled in a bit of anger and stamped his foot a second time. "You're not giving her up, so I'm just gonna have to MAKE you get out of my way." Then, without hesitating, he let out another growl. He jumped back and lowered his bright-blue head. A confident smirk crossed his face. He charged forward, again without hesitation, and his body became surrounded in a bluish aura. He tried to slam his head as hard as he could into Janice's small body with a powerful Head Smash attack. A powerful move like that pulled off with such ease...there's no way that came from somebody who was just a bully.
Maybe this was a bad idea.

Were berries really that rare in this dimension? In the first dimension, there wasn't a place where you couldn't find Oran Berries. They were everywhere! But this was a whole different dimension, so it would make sense that some differences like that would exist. Still, this man was being cruel. He didn't even care that the Joltik's brother could possibly die. He just wanted the berry for his own selfish needs! That alone was enough to make Janice angrier than you could imagine. But the Caranidos' next action blew Janice past the limit.
Janice was slammed in the side with the Caranidos' Head Smash. The attack was powerful. Janice was knocked back several feet and landed on her side. Just the one attack tore away a large amount of strength. She managed to stand up again. "Y-you're a cruel man..." she managed to utter. Her eyes began to glow a bluish color as she opened her mouth and fired a large orange glowing ball from her mouth. The ball moved over to the Caranidos and began to circle around him a few times before disappearing. The confuse ray may or may not have successfully confused the dinosaur. Only time would tell. "I-... I won't let you do this!" Janice yelled angrily.

The Cranidos smirked as he felt his powerful Head Smash knocked the Fire-type Pokemon for a loop. As was expected, of course. He felt the power of his own attack hurt him a bit, due to recoil damage. But he didn't care. He was far too experienced in battle to be bothered by such a minor setback. "Heheh...oh, I'm going to enjoy this, quite a bit." he said. But he hadn't expected the Vulpix to start fighting back so quickly. When the Confuse Ray came at him, he was taken by surprise. The Confuse Ray was a complete success, and he stumbled around slightly in Confusion.
At this point, the Joltik had scrambled to the side and found a hiding spot behind a nearby tree and a tall patch of grass. He'd be difficult to spot in there...although it was a fairly obvious hiding spot.
The Cranidos wasn't about to give up yet, however. "Heheh...not bad, kid. But if you think you can stop me this easily, then you've got another thing coming!" Having fought his way through the Confusion, at least for this turn, he launched himself forward. He held his head lowered, ready to propel himself faster with another Head Smash attack. Against a basic Fire-type Pokemon like Janice, this should be more than enough to finish her off. He was ready to deal the finishing blow so soon.
But that never happened. Instead, there was a sudden flash of yellow light, followed by the Cranidos' cries of pain. As the flash went away, the Cranidos could be seen on the ground, growling, having just been hit by a jolt of electricity. "Grrr...! Wh-who was that...!? Show yourself!"
Right on cue, a silhouette appeared in the canopy of the tree the Joltik was hiding under. The figure jumped from the tree and landed in the light, revealing a dark orange fur coloration. The figure had a long, skinny, brown tail tipped with a dim yellow lightning bolt shape. His fur seemed to give off a sort of glimmering glow. He stood there, arms crossed with the dim yellow patches on his cheeks sparking a bit with leftovers of the earlier Thundershock attack.
The shiny-colored Raichu's tail twitched a bit, and he turned it around so that the bolt on the tip of it pointed roughly at the Cranidos. "Sorry, but I don't like to see innocent Pokemon get beaten up for no real reason. So I'd appreciate it if you'd stand down." The Raichu then turned his attention to Janice. "...And you. Are you okay over there? I know how rough that last exchange must have been on a Pokemon like you."
The Cranidos was back on his feet, though still stumbling around a bit in his confusion. But even through that, he was glaring daggers at that Raichu, clearly not liking the intruder. Everything suddenly seemed so quiet now that this Raichu had appeared, who was still waiting for Janice's reply. The Raichu's gaze was once more focused on the Cranidos, just in case he tried something.

Janice was hopeless as her confuse ray seemed to be useless. She had no idea how she did it, and wasn't sure if she could do it again. She saw the Caranidos lower his head once again. It was all over. There was no way she could handle another one of this Rock-type's attacks. She was trembling in place as the Caranidos charged toward her. She looked away and closed her eyes, readying herself for the attack. To her suprise, she wasn't harmed. She opened her eyes to see the shiny Raichu in the tree. He soon asked if she was okay. "Y-yeah, I think I'm fine... thanks for saving me."
Janice couldn't believe this pokemon went out of his way to help her out. Regardless of all she's been through recently, she couldn't help but smile. "I can't believe you did that. I've never been protected like that by someone who didn't know me..." Janice started and paused for a moment and touched her necklace again. It wan't long before her smile soon faded into a frown.

The Raichu looked over at Janice again as she started to speak. "Oh, no it was nothing at all. It takes a heartless soul to not desire to do anything to assist a fair damsel in distress." He said with a slight air of confidence. He clearly was quite the chivalrous Pokemon. He looked back over at the Cranidos with a bit of a smug expression. "Heh...now then, you've just felt a bit of my strength. And not to mention, you're suffering from the Confusion dealt to you by her. So now, you can either fight a losing battle, or..."
The Raichu pulled out a small, pear-shaped object. "...you can take this. Consider it an apology and a peace offering. This Sitrus Berry is just as good as any Oran Berry, only with a much more satisfying taste." And with that, he held out his paw. In it, the Sitrus Berry still lay clutched firmly. But then he stopped. "...Although." He reached down and pulled out another object. This one was small, pink and conical. A Persim Berry. He tossed it at the Cranidos. "I suppose you'll be needing this one first."
The Cranidos grumbled a bit. He still seemed disoriented by the recent events. He watched as the Raichu pulled out two objects and speak to him. Pft. Like he needed this little rat's help. But then again.... Just then, he felt something bump against his foot. He looked down and saw the Persim Berry laying there. He made a small 'tch' noise with his tongue and reached his head down. He scraped the Berry up off of the ground using his hooked beak-like lip and started chewing on it.
From the moment the Berry was swallowed down his throat, he felt his head start to clear. Well, it was certain...everything the Raichu said was true. He was simply going to let everything go as long as he was willing to take that better Berry for himself. He still looked doubtful, but he figured he had nothing to lose, and more to gain. As such, he slowly started padding his way forward, making sure to keep his eyes locked with the Raichu at all times. He wasn't backing down, and he wasn't going to show any signs of humility or weakness. He was going to do this as the strong and proud warrior that he was.
As he approached the Raichu, the Mouse Pokemon didn't move. He remained standing, Berry outstretched. The Cranidos stepped up close enough to him that he could reach the small fruit. He scowled a bit, half considering just smacking it out of his hand and showing this stupid rat what-for for interfering with what he was doing.
He looked up at the Raichu one last time in the eye. And in one swift stroke, he swng his tail around and smacked the Raichu's arm with it, forcing the Lightning Mouse to lose his grip and drop it. The Cranidos pulled his head back and slammed it as hard as he could into the Raichu's forehead, causing him to reel backward a bit, off-balance. He then took this chance to shift his weight to one foot and plant the other one firmly against the Raichu's chest and shove him hard to the ground.
The Raichu felt the foot get pressed up against him, and he quickly felt the soft grass against his back before he heard the thud of his fall. He let out a small "Oof...!" as he fell. He was now on the ground, underneath the Cranidos' foot, pinned to the ground, with the Headbutt Pokemon Leering him down. Although time seemed to stop at that moment, it actually passed just as quickly as it came. The Cranidos lifted his foot off of the Raichu's chest and scooped the Sitrus Berry up off of the ground and tossed it upward with his mouth. He managed to catch it as it fell back down in one of his stubby claws and he started carrying it off. But before he pulled very far away, he glanced back. "...Next time, stay out of my way." With that, he started to stomp away, head held high.
The Raichu winced a bit, rubbing the arm that had been smacked. That tail had left a small mark on his arm. A bit of a bruise, and it stung. He lay on the grass on his back and let out a small sigh. Perhaps he had underestimated that Cranidos.

Janice couldn't believe what this Raichu was doing! Was he seriously offering to cure the Cruel rock-type's Confusion. Did he have any idea how hard it was to use that Confuse Ray!? The only thing she had more trouble believing was what she saw after the Sitrus Berry was offered. The Caranidos attacked the Raichu! As the Dinosaur had the Raichu pinned to the ground, everything in Janice's body was telling her to attack, but try as she might, she couldn't let out even an ember. Probably due to how weak she was after the Caranidos' first attack. How could this creature do something so cruel as to hurt someone who was just trying to apologize!? That pokemon didn't even deserve an apology!
As the Caranidos started to walk away, Janice walked weakly over to the Raichu who was laying on the ground, obviously in pain. "A-are you okay?" She asked. She couldn't stand seeing such a nice person, or pokemon, in a situation they didn't deserve like this. "I can't believe even he could do something so terrible..." Janice said while she tried to help the Raichu up as best as she could. It was still awkward being a Vulpix, and all. "I really mean it, though. I really am thankful for your help. I don't know what he would've done to me if you hadn't stepped in."

The Raichu was still flat on his back when the Vulpix ran up to him again. He looked up at Janice and gladly accepted her assistance. He managed to get back to his feet and dust himself off. "Oh, yes, I'm quite alright." he said in quite an unstressed tone. For somebody who had just taken a blow like that, he sure seemed like he wasn't in all that much pain. "You mustn't really blame the poor guy. Well, I suppose he was at fault for that situation, but it was in his nature to act that way."
The Raichu stretched a bit and smiled at Janice. He examined his arm and noted the bruise that was still there. Nothing too bad, he supposed. It could have been worse. "And no no, of course you shouldn't worry about that. It's quite alright. I'm fine, he's gone, and your little Joltik friend seems to have run off by now. Poor little guy was probably scared out of his skin...." His expression then suddenly changed to one of surprise and he brought his paw to his head with a small smack. "Oh my, and it seems I've forgotten to introduce myself in all this action. My name is Cenric Ren. But, uh...people around here seemed to have given me a bit of an embarassing nickname." He rubbed the back of his head and glanced away, but said nothing about it. He had a slight hint of color to his nose and cheeks. Perhaps a bit of a blush?

"I guess..." Janice said in reply to the Raichu's statement about the Caranidos. She still wasn't sure, but she didn't want to argue. She still had too much on her mind. It wasn't long before the Electric Type introduced himself. "Oh, hi Cenric. My name's Janice. Janice Hebel. Nice to meet you!" Janice introduced herself. "I know this might sound strange, but... where exactly are we...?" Janice already knew she sounded crazy, but she had to get an answer. She decided the best thing to do was to describe what happened recently. That way, either Cenric would think she was completely insane, or he would give her the support she needed. It was a risk worth taking.
"Okay... first of all, I want to say that what I'm about to tell you is nothing but the truth." Janice didn't know how convincing this was, but she needed to tell someone. "I haven't been a Vulpix my entire life... In fact, just yesterday I was still human. But I wasn't exactly in a good position..." Janice stopped there. "N-never mind. I probably just sound crazy..." Janice pointed out. "I-I'll just be going now..." She finished as she turned to walk off. This was the dumbest idea she had in her life. All she succeeded in was reminding herself about Alice.

"Ah, I see. Well met, then, Janice Hebel." He replied with a small bow in her direction. He certainly seemed strangely civilized for a Pokemon wandering around of his own accord. But then he quickly looked at her with a curious expression when she asked where they were. So she didn't know this place? How peculiar...everybody in the area knew what this place was. So then, was she a traveller of some sort, or...?
He hadn't even the need to think about it. Janice seemed more than prepared to explain her situation. Nothing but the truth? That statement could really be taken one of two ways: Either the person was telling a desperate, crazy truth, or it was somebody simply trying to cause confusion or even mess with people. Cenric listened in to the Vulpix's explanation of recent events. When she was finished, he stopped and thought for a moment. But he didn't really have time to finish his thoughts. As he did, the Janice was already excusing herself from the situation and starting to walk off.
"Now hold on there." he said, stepping up to her again and putting his arm around her neck. "While I agree that that story of yours sounds quite crazy...I have to say, that so far you've given me no reason to believe you're lying to me. In fact...I have to say that I believe every word of it." In fact, the truth of it was that he had already heard so many rumors about this...he had never really paid them much mind, but now he seemed to have stumbled upon proof of the truth of the rumors. Until he uncovered any reason that Janice might be lying to him, of course. But for now, he would accept it as truth.

Janice felt a little better as the Raichu put his arm around her. "Well, you may say that now, but you haven't heard the most crazy part." Janice pointed out. She had no idea why she was doing this, she knew she wouldn't be able to keep herself from crying. "Well, a few days before being turned into a Vulpix... there... there was a break-in... a robbery in my house... My parents worked late that night, and me and my little sister, her name was Alice, were alone. I loved Alice... she was so young, kind, and she was beautiful. I don't know how anyone would ever even consider hurting such an innocent little girl... but they did... I heard Alice's scream, and Immediately ran to the room, but..." Janice's words were getting more and more choked up and tears were forming in her eyes. "I-I tried to save her... I was just too scared to make a move.... I hesitated too long and..." Janice couldn't hold back her tears any more. Her tears fell from her hazel eyes down her cheeks. "I-... I'm sorry... I-I just can't talk about it anymore..."
By now, Janice was crying uncontrolably. Just the sight of the pure terror in her little sister's eyes as she was murdered in front of her was stuck in her mind. That terrible scream that changed her life forever was looping over and over like a broken record. "alice..." Janice murmured to herself, quietly as she thought the rest to herself. 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry...'.

The Raichu's ear twitched a bit. He had yet to hear the crazy part, huh? Well, to him, everything she'd just said sounded as crazy as could be. How could anything really get any crazier than that? Well, he decided to be quiet and patient and to simply listen to Janice's tale. His expression turned soft as he heard about the break-in and what had happened to Janice's little sister. That was certainly a sad, rather depressing story. He...wasn't entirely suer what to say at this point. He had never dealt with a murder situation before. He looked on as Janice started to cry to herself.
Finally, he mustered his resolve and took a step toward her again. "...I'm...terribly sorry for your loss." he muttered, tail and ears drooping a bit. He could only imagine the kind of pain this poor little girl must be in right now. He knew this was a touchy subject, so he figured he should also choose his words with care. "...But you mustn't blame yourself. From the sound of things...you have done nothing wrong. You only acted naturally in that situation. There is but one person to blame for that terrible incident, and I'm certain you know who THAT is. You do not need to mourn the loss of a loved one.... I do not know this sister of yours...but would she want to see you crying so much because of her?"

Janice didn't know how to respond to Cenric's words. She stood there in silence for a few seconds. "But it was my fault!" She suddenly blurted out. "I'm her older sister! I'm supposed to protect her with my life! Not stand by and watch someone take it! The natural response wasn't good enough! I promised her I would stay with her to the end of my life! I promised that I would never abandon her in her time of need, and that's just what I did!" Janice collapsed onto the ground and crossed her paws over her snout. Her tears still flooding her eyes. It wasn't until she heard the Raichu's next statement that this changed.
Cenric had a point. Would Alice want Janice to cry in this situation? Alice was always a sweet girl. She would always try her best to cheer Janice up when she was down. "You're right... I have to stay strong..." She looked down to her necklace. The Saphire was glistening beautifly in the sunlight. Janice spoke softly, more so to herself.
"...for her sake."

Cenric watched her fall to the ground and start crying even harder. But then she seemed to perk up at the mention of what her sister would want. It looked like he had struck the perfect note. "...That's right." He knelt down beside Janice and held a paw down, offering to help her back to her feet. "...You should try to focus your energy on finding this...criminal. And seeing to it that he serves the proper justice." He was being completely genuine about this. He was well aware of a single fact, however. And that was that it would be rather difficult to capture a culprit when the two of them were in separate worlds.
Cenric decided to address this issue. He needed to show her that she had somebody on her side. "...I tell you what. I'll even stay with you until you can find a way back. I'll help you out with this..."

Janice smiled slightly as the Raichu extended his paw. She let him help her up. She heard his advice. "B-but this man is in a whole dimension!" Janice suddenly blurted out. She only felt hopeless once again. "How can I find the man if I'm in a whole different dimension? The police are probably looking for him right now... but... oh no..." Janice just realized what she had done by walking through that portal. She had locked herself out of her home world.
"M-my parents! They must be terrified! They must think I was kidnapped or murdered by that man! I- I have to find a way back! I can't imagine what they're going through, thinking they've lost both their children!" Janice had to ease her parent's hearts even if only a little! Was she trapped forever? Would her family have to live with the lie that she's dead? "Is there any way for me to get to the first dimension?"

Cenric nodded. He knew that this would be a very tough situation for Janice. Unfortunately, he wasn't exactly sure what he could do for her at this point. He didn't know any more about this whole interdimensional issue of hers any more than she did. He crossed his arms and started to think to himself for a little bit as Janice continued to make exclamations about her being trapped in this dimension. He wondered whether or not he would be able to come up with some kind of strategy for figuring this out. Or at least, try to come up with a place they could start investigating for clues of some sort.
Unfortunately for the both of them, he couldn't really think of anything off of the top of his head. He let out a small sigh. He had only really been able to come up with a single thing. "...Well, you arrived here somehow. The only logical conclusion is that, if it happened once, then odds are that it can happen again." He looked around the area to get a feel for which direction that they needed to head. "...And I'm afraid I don't know much about interdimensinal travel, but if anybody has information on it, outside of the Creator or Dimensional Guard themselves, then they'll be in the nearby city, Visdumia. It's a rather large city, and is well-known for its technological advancements." He pointed his tail in a direction just over Janice's shoulder, aiming at some point to the south.
He hoped that this would make for a good enough answer to her question. He hated to see young girls like her cry or fear.
