Kyle slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was a field full of grass, maybe a tree or two in the distance. No signs of civilization anywhere in sight. The next thing he noticed was that he was not sore anymore from the burns. He was laying on his stomach, so he pushed himself awkwardly to his feet, and stumbled a bit before righting himself. He felt strange... somewhat off-balance, as if the feet he were standing on weren't his own, and perhaps there was some extra weight behind him. But that was just silly. Still, he decided to humor his mind and curve his neck around.
He registered a glint of flame before it disappeared behind him again.
He immediately began to panic, turning again to try and catch up with the flaming object to see what exactly it was, but it kept swiveling behind him in turn with his body before he could really check it out. He tried spinning the other way, but the object was smart enough to know what was going on and spun the other way as well. Finally, Kyle reached back behind him and grasped a long, slender object. He pulled it in front of him, feeling a jerk in his rear end as he did so, and learned that it was a tail. His tail, apparently. And it was on fire.
Kyle released the tail quickly, like a hot potato, not wanting to be anywhere near it... and then he had the idea to look down at himself. He had a new, reptilian body, complete with claws. He finally recognized what he had become - a Charmander. And while he knew that Charmander was quite resistant to fire, it meant that he'd have to be using it a lot as well, and there was no way he could get accustomed to not being flammable. He'd also have to be careful not to walk too close to a plant or something, lest it be set aflame.
But... is this really what happened? Is this what the voice meant when it said that he wouldn't have to worry about fire? It was quite a cruel way to fulfill a wish... maybe this is all just a dream, a nightmarish fantasy concocted by his riled subconscious... but either way, this was his current reality, and he might as well see it through. As he walked through the fields, searching for nothing in particular, he kept checking back at his tail, making sure it didn't erupt into a raging wildfire or anything of the sort.

As the Charmander made his way through the fields of Nirocci, the fields seemed rather plain...just as most plains and fields tended to be. However, up ahead, a small set of trees seemed to make themselves visible. If the rolling fields were made of sand, one might call this an oasis. As Kyle drew closer to it, sparkling, clear water could be seen around the center of it all. However, that probably wouldn't be the first thing to catch one's eye. No, the first thing would probably be the set of ropes and vines, shaped like a trapeze. They were strung from the trees that were all around. There were also three hammocks strung in a triangle shape between three triangularly arranged trees.
Despite the presence of the hammocks and trapeze, there seemed to be nobody nearby. Perhaps this place had been long-since abandoned?

As Kyle traveled onward, he became more and more unsteady by the minute. He had - no, he WAS a walking flame, and it didn't help being surrounded by an endless expanse of flammable objects. If he were to trip, he could start a wildfire. He looked down at his feet, taking care not to make a step out of line. Even though they were alien to him, he had no trouble keeping himself on both of them, but at his increasingly nervous state, he may make a mistake simply from stress.
Fortunately, a distraction came about, in the form of several trees surrounding a small pond. Kyle saw the water and ran towards it. He recalled that a Charmander's flaming tail is essentially its life source - if it were to go out, the Pokemon would perish. He knew the same would be true for him, but if anything terrible were to happen, he would throw himself into the pond as a last resort. Maybe dying in this body would even return him to normal... who knows. But he wasn't about to take this situation lightly. He wouldn't go trying anything rash without the proper research first. But where would one go about finding information in a place like this...?
As his mind wandered, so did his eyes. And the next thing that caught his attention was a series of man-made (or in this case Pokemon-made?) simple structures in the trees. What appeared to be a trapeze, and three hammocks. He immediately thought about taking a quick rest in a hammock, but he couldn't forget his own flammability. He then wondered if anybody was using these... if they were Pokemon too, he might even be able to talk to them. But they didn't appear to be around at that moment. So, Kyle decided to stay a while and wait. He tried to look for a place to sit, and there certainly weren't a lot of options... or any, for that matter. His tail would be way too close to plant life no matter what, unless he sat with his back to the pond, but that would be dangerous in a whole other way. Perhaps if there were a large enough rock, he could sit elevated off of the ground...

Unfortunately for the all-too-cautious Charmander, there wasn't a decent, inflammable area anywhere nearby. No dirt patches, no large rocks...only grass, trees, and other random assortments of vegetation. Nothing, other than the trapeze-like swing...thing and the hammocks, was really enough to catch anybody's attention. The lake was nice and peaceful...and the sound of the water lapping against the shore was almost...soothing. One might find it rather easy to relax and fall asleep here, if one were careless enough.
Regardless, there wasn't anything around in visible line of sight that changed. No matter how long Kyle seemed to wait. That is, of course, unless one had the eagle eyes to notice something was a little bit...out of place. In a line of bushes that just so happened to be to Kyle's left-claw side, a yellow-colored specks might be seen above the bushes. Just then, a noise came from behind Kyle...from the water. The sound of something emerging out of it.
If the Charmander turned around to look...it might look as though nothing were there. Unless one had a good enough vision to tell that there was an oddly-shaped blue...something in the water that blended superbly well with the lake water. Was there really something out there...? And what about the bushes? Was Kyle slowly becoming surrounded by...someone or something?

Kyle looked in every direction he could think of, but he could not find a decent place to plant himself without causing mass destruction and tears. How long would he have to stay standing? A pyrophobic can hardly rest when he has a fire tied to his life essence and attached to his caboose... And he was getting an eerie feeling that he was being watched, which certainly didn't help. Now his non-existent reputation could be at risk too. He looked around more closely now, looking not for a seat but for a soul.
As he brought his attention to the bushes, he could swear that he saw a glint of yellow for a moment. Though it could just be his paranoia dreaming up more things for him to worry about. This happens way too often for any situation to truly be comfortable. Gulping, he checked the pond again. Yep, his reflection confirmed, he was still a Charmander. There's one nightmare he wasn't waking up from anytime soon. He thought he could also see movement in the pond, though it could have just been the water rippling... wait, would plain, empty water ripple at random? Now he was really paranoid.
He tried speaking out. "H-hello?" he uttered quietly, his own voice startling him. He cleared his throat, re-acquainting himself with language, and tried again. "Hello? Is anyone there...?" His voice was slightly raised, but inhibited so as not to cause too much noise among the silence of the field. "I have no idea where I am or how I got here... I'm not even sure of who I am anymore..." He more or less shifted to thinking aloud, hoping that someone could hear him and maybe bring him some valuable insight. "Also... I could really use a place to sit."

At Kyle's next words, something suddenly lashed out from trees above him. A strong vine shot down at him from the greenery and attempted to constrict the Fire Lizard's arms to his side. If it was a successful snare, the vine would then suddenly lift in the air, in an attempt to hoist the Charmander on high and get strung there like a piñata. Apart from this abrupt attempted binding, no other actions responded to Kyle's questions.
It would appear as though somebody...or someTHING was definitely there. But what was it...? If Kyle were to trace the source of the vine, it would be coming through a thick brush of leaves, making it nearly impossible to discern the Pansage standing behind it, trying to hold onto the Charmander with as tight a grip as he can.

Kyle could not have seen the vines coming if they were 2 feet in front of him. And soon enough, they were, as well as all around him. He yelped in shock as his limbs were tied, and his body was hoisted into the air. As he tipped upside down, he began to frantically search for the source of the vine, but in his dangling panic and distorted viewpoint he could not concentrate enough to spot anything. "Ok, a little creative problem solving never hurt anybody," cried the Charmander, "but this isn't exactly what I meant... it doesn't look like sitting to me..."
He squirmed within the vines, trying to figure out how to get himself down... if only he had some kind of tool to cut himself free. Sure, he had claws, but they wouldn't do him any good if he couldn't move his arms. He craned his head around and saw his burning tail again. Perhaps if he could move it to the right place, he could burn through the vines... too bad he didn't have more time to get used to having a tail first, or else he could probably move it voluntarily. It appeared that he was at the mercy of whoever activated the trap. There was only one other thing he could think of trying... Kyle twisted and rocked his body, trying to swing on the vines and hopefully either loosen them, or hit them with his tail. Oh man... I look so helpless right now, thought Kyle. I'm just glad no one I know is watching...

"Argh, would ya stop strugglin' for even a SECOND!?" came a voice from the source of the vines. Soon enough, a green and yellow monkey stepped out from behind the leaves, back toward Kyle. Though his back was facing him, his neck was craned so that he was able to get a good look at the Charmander in his grasp. In front of (or behind, depending on your perspective), was his tail. Coming out from between the two leaves of the tail however was the vine that was now constricting the helpless Charmander. "It's hard enough holding onto a Fire Pokemon as it is...ya don't need to be swingin' yourself around like that. It'll only make things worse for ya."
"Aw, relax man!" came a voice from the opposite side. If Kyle tried, he'd be able to twist around to see a Pansear step out from the shrubs. He had his hands behind his head, and he was looking up at the dangling Charmander. "Don't tell me you're scared of what a little guy like him could do to you, are you? As long as you're wary of that tail of his, you'll be fine...so just chill, would ya?" He seemed to be a bit more relaxed about the Pansage's capture than the Pansage himself.
"That's easy for you to say, Rheid." the Pansage grumbled to himself. "You're not the one who has to hold on tight to a Pokemon that could incinerate part of your body at any possible moment." He was definitley on-edge about holding onto the Charmander. But if he was so worried about it, then why not just let him go?
"Heheh...no, trust me, I know ALL I need to know about incineration. Now don't I? Just relax and enjoy your catch a bit, man, come on, Garen." And there he went again, with yet another swift rebuttal to the green monkey.
"Argh, there you go again. Every time one of us says that word, you always make that rediculous joke. You specialize in the move Incinerate. WE GET IT! Ugh, no wonder you decided to leave. You really didn't belong with those funny folk." Now the Pansage, apparently named Garen, seemed to simply be aggravated at the Pansear, who was conveniently named Rheid. It appeared that they had forgotten completely that they were holding Kyle precariously in the air.
The two didn't seem to get along very well. It was at that point that a new voice met their hearing. A female one this time."Oh come on guys, just get back to the task at hand, would you? I swear, you're like a couple of children."
At the sound of her voice, the two monkey Pokemon looked out to the lake as a Panpour stepped out of it. "Sorry, Bilou..." the red and green monkeys said together. The Panpour stepped out of the lake and looked up at the Charmander that Garen was still carrying. "Hey, you there.... Who are you exactly, where did you come from and why are you here...?" At last, it seemed like Kyle might be getting somewhere. After all, somebody was FINALLY addressing him again, and starting to ask questions. Which was a good thing...right?
((As you can guess, I was in the Ace Attorney mood when I was coming up with the names. xP))

When Kyle first heard, and saw, the Pansage emerge, he felt a little bit relieved that it was just a Grass-type; he might be able to take him on and escape if it came down to it, but there was nothing he could do from his position in the trees. He stopped swinging and decided just to listen, and before long another voice joined the conversation. This one belonged to a Fire-type. Suddenly his chances of escaping on brute force alone were knocked down several notches. And they didn't seem like the kind who was easy to reason with.
It was when the Panpour emerged that Kyle began to panic. Ironically, hearing a voice of reason calm down his other two captors would have calmed him down a bit, but she was a water-type. Now he had to be really careful about getting on their bad side; even though Kyle liked water for its anti-flammable properties, he knew it was now also his weakness, and one he hadn't had to deal with until a half hour ago. He certainly wasn't prepared for something like this. He'd have to rely on his quick thinking for the time being.
"Oh... well, my name is Kyle," he said, trying to keep his calm and not come off as a nervous wreck. "I came from a faraway place - I'm migrating, you see, family issues and all that - and I've needed a good place to rest for a while now. Traveling takes a lot out of you when you're coming from halfway across the continent. So I decided to stop by this pond, get a drink, maybe have a nap, before I continue on the final leg of my journey. Then I saw the hammocks, and realized that I might be intruding... looks like I was right. And I'm really sorry about that. It would be very nice if you could let me down, as my family is probably worried about me... I won't attack you or anything..." He hoped that his story was remotely believable, as he certainly didn't want to try explaining that he was formerly a human to a bunch of strangers.

The three monkies looked at each other as Kyle ended up finishing his story. It was quite clear that none of them were sure whether or not the story was trustworthy. It was the Panpour that spoke first. "So, you think we're just going to let you go without even wondering whether or not your story's believable? Heh. Yeah right, hon. That's a good one. You just sit tight there and let me think about it, alright?" She put a hand to her jaw as though she had begun to mull things over. But after a moment, she decided to add, "...Oh and...try not to go anywhere, alright?~" She winked a bit before returning to her thoughts.
"Aw come ON, Bilou! We don't have all day!" the Pansage groaned, still standing up in the tree branches, refusing to slacken his grip on the Charmander. "It's easy for you to just sit back down there and think things over when you're not the one having to hoist him above the ground and hold him firmly enough to keep him from burning me to a crisp!" Garen was clearly quite annoyed at this whole affair.
"C'mon man, I told you!" Reidd responded. "Just chill out a bit, would ya? If you're gonna complain about it so much, why don't you just come down then? I mean...there's no real reason to keep him hoisted in the air like that if it'll keep ya from chillin' out a bit more, right?" At this point, the Pansear had seated himself in the shade of one of the tree and was leaning back against its trunk, with his two hands behind his head. "Then you can just let Bilou do all the work and relax."
Garen rolled his eyes at that. "I wouldn't expect anything less from the laziest Pokemon in all of Nirocci." But he had to admit...the idea of not having to hold this heavy Pokemon in the air was convincing enough. And so, he decided to follow through with what the Pansear had to say anyway. He began to hop down from tree branch to tree branch until he finally reached the ground.
...Unfortunately, this had a bit of a side effect. As the Pansage started dropping toward the ground, so did the force that was resisting gravity's pull on Kyle. And as such, he would begin to fall straight downward, toward the ground. Thankfully, it wasn't a huge drop. Maybe a few meters at most. But even so, it could still turn out pretty badly if Kyle ended up landing on his head.

Kyle felt something large force its way down -- up? -- his throat as Bilou responded incredulously to his story. She saw right through me... Kyle thought. He didn't think it was possible for a Charmander to feel even hotter. The Pansage's comment about burning them to a crisp was startling to him, however... did they really think he was capable of such a feat? Or was that just grass-type paranoia? Certainly Kyle wasn't the only one who could be afraid of fire. He briefly pondered threatening him to force them to ease up... didn't Charmander have a fire-breathing move? Ember, was it? But no, the water-type Panpour would drown him in an instant if he tried anything funny. He was sure of it. Great, thought Kyle, now I'm afraid of both fire AND water...
He was stuck simply wondering, what had he done wrong, and what were the monkey Pokemon planning on doing with him? So far, all he could be accused of was trespassing, as far as he knew... He tried to listen for even a hint of their intentions, but if there was anything they were better at than Kyle was, it was hiding things. The only word he heard that gave him any sort of clue was the presumed name of their current location: "Nirocci". The name didn't ring any bells, making Kyle believe that he was perhaps in another world altogether...
But before he could think any further, he felt his stomach lurch. The Pansage was no longer holding him up, and he began to fall. With his body still constricted, it was all he could do to let out an audible shriek before he hit the ground, head-first, and plopping painfully onto his belly.
He thought for certain that the crash would knock him out, but he was still conscious. The fall must not have been as far as he expected. Still, he didn't move a muscle. Maybe... he thought, his inner words echoing about his newly aching head, Maybe if I act like I'm unconscious... I'll have a chance of catching them off-guard... Either that or he'd be able to overhear a conversation they won't know he can hear. At this point, he was at least sure that trying to say or do anything else would likely end up badly for Kyle, one way or another.

As Kyle came falling down and collided with the ground, a loud thud emanated from the spot he landed. This caught all of the Monkey Pokemon's attentions, snapping the Panpour out of her thoughts. She couldn't help but sigh at the sight. The poor Charmander had no chance against the stupidity of the Pansage's actions. Of course, the shriek that had emerged from Kyle's lungs had also gotten their attention...but it was the resounding thud at end that really made it sound like a gruesome fall.
"Tch...why don't you try to be more careful for a change, huh, Garen?"
"Yeah, man." Reidd butted in. "Looks like you knocked the kid out cold with that crash. Harsh...."
"You're always doing things like that," the Panpour muttered with another audible sigh. "Acting out of impulse and not even thinking twice about the consequences."
"Hey, what the heck is THAT supposed to mean!?" the Pansage grumbled in response with a rather angry tone. "I barely ever do anything like that! Name me three times I've ever done anything like that in the past month!"
Unphased, the Panpour responded almost immediately--with only the briefest of moments to think about her response. "Well," she started. "There was that time when you were accidently almost set a tree on fire with our campfire...that time you accidently knocked Reidd out of the tree when you were swinging from it...oh, and who could ever forget the time when you actually burned yourself reaching out to pick up a roasted berry that you hadn't even imagined might potentially still be hot?"
Garen huffed in response and crossed his arms. "...Hmph. Well, I bet you couldn't find anymore...." he mumbled. But when he saw that Bilou, the Panpour, had opened her mouth to make another retort, he cut her off. "Argh, just forget it!" he growled, turning slightly red in embarrassment.
However, at that moment, Garen seemed to forget for a moment that he still had Kyle in his grip, and his grip slackened a bit. Of course, when he did notice a moment later, he didn't bother to correct himself. After all, it's not like he'd be doing any getting away in his state. So, he decided to stop bothering to waste his energy with a tight grip and allowed his grip to slacken even further. His attention was then turned to the other two monkies once more. The three continued to bicker over this little situation they had here. Meanwhile, the vines wrapped around Kyle were more than loose enough for wiggle room....

Kyle, his eyes glued shut, listened carefully to the quarrel between the three monkey Pokemon. Now that he had some time to actually think and clear his mind of petty worries, he was able to formulate a more thorough plan. The three seemed to be far too focused on giving each other a hard time to even pay attention to Kyle, and soon enough he felt the vines loosen around him. He opened one eye ever-so-slightly to get another good look at his surroundings and plan an escape route. He tried covertly twisting his head to get a look at the monkeys as well, and their presumed range of vision.
Perhaps if he made a bee-line for the shrubbery on the edge of the clearing, on his closest side, he'd have a good chance of getting away entirely unnoticed. But if not, did he have any other tricks up his sleeve? As a Charmander, he had a lot more control over fire than Kyle did as a human, and one of the less harmful aspects of fire is the formation of smoke. He could employ the use of Smokescreen to make a swift getaway without being easily targeted by an attack or another constraining vine. He may have even had another technique that would be helpful in this situation, but he wasn't that well learned in Pokemon moves yet, and if push comes to shove, a well-aimed Ember attack on Garen could force the others to slow down and tend to their friend...
He had the plan, and now it was time to put it into action. As quickly and silently as he could muster, he began to work his way out of the vines, keeping a close eye on his captors as he did so, making sure to stand still if they so much as glanced in his direction. When he finally achieved enough freedom to stand, he would sprint for the dense part of the forest behind him, looking back occasionally, and if he noticed that he was being chased, he would quickly throw down a Smokescreen and try to move even faster. At this rate, he cared a bit more about getting out of there safely than accidentally starting a forest fire.

The three monkies continued to bicker in a slight semi-circle; Reidd the Pansear was on the left, Garen the Pansage was in the center, his back to Kyle completely, and then Bilou the Panpour was across from Reidd, on the right side of Garen. They were arguing to such a feverish extent that it seemed as though they did this a lot by now.
Meanwhile, as Kyle continued to attempt to squirm his way out of his bindings, the Pansage's grip suddenly tightened at one point, clutching harder at Kyle than they had even before. At the same time, Garen's voice had gotten louder--to the point where he was practically yelling at Reidd. It had probably been nothing more than an instinctive action in anger on the Pansage's part. Almost immediately afterward, however, the Panpour smacked the Pansage's shoulder and immediately scolded him for the sudden increase in volume. Then the Pansage made a remark about the scolding, and they started at it again.
Finally, Kyle had been able to pull free of the bindings. But as he started getting back to his feet again, the sudden motion must have caught the Panpour's attention from the corner of her eye or something, because she immediately smacked the Pansage's shoulder again and called out his name, "Garen, pay attention!"
As she did, Garen quickly spun around. What he saw made his eyes widen with surprise. The Charmander that he had ensnared just a moment before had managed to wiggle his way free and was not on his feet. "Oh no you don't...!" Garen growled in frustration and lashed out with a Vine Whip attack. But instead of attempting to whip the Charmander, he tried to wrap it around the Fire-type Pokemon's legs and tie them together. If Kyle didn't do something, he'd probably be in an even worse situation than he had been about a minute ago....

The moment Kyle freed himself from the vines, he knew that something wasn't right. He heard Garen's voice directed at him and panicked. He certainly didn't expect any of them to catch on that quickly! He looked backward and saw a vine heading straight for his legs, attempting to ensnare him yet again. A smokescreen wouldn't do him much good against an attack that was already aimed, so he had to take care of that first. He could try to aim an Ember at both the vine and the Pansage, but that was a tricky and risky shot. They didn't seem to want to cause him harm, just to capture him, and if he straight-up attacked, he'd risk incurring a full retaliation from the three of them.
Instinctively, he leaped forward into a roll, getting just ahead of the Vine Whip's mark. He sprang to his feet using the forward momentum, turned around, and, with a deep breath, spewed a small dark ball that erupted into a thick black smoke surrounding himself and the three monkeys. And with that, he continued with his original plan of high-tailing it out of there, deviating a dozen or so degrees in case they figured he'd keep running straight. He was nearly to the surrounding brush, and from there he'd make sure he kept an inconsistent path to keep them guessing. He wasn't sure if he could accomplish a feat like that again, though... hopefully, that was the last grab at him they'd be able to make.

The Vine Whip snapped at the ground, kicking up a small cloud of dirt as Kyle managed to leap forward and avoid the bindings. That wasn't the only cloud that would be unleashed however. The Charmander they had been trying to re-capture managed to spew out a thick, black smoke that surrounded all three of the elemental monkey Pokemon. All three began to cough hard as they breathed in the thick smog. Of course, that wasn't the worst of it. It hindered their vision so that they had a hard time making out the form on the other side.
Thankfully for them, however, the Panpour knew what to do. She jumped back and out of the black cloud and inhaled deeply. When she was done, she let out some frosty breath using Icy Wind. The move was, thankfully, able to blow away the thick smoke, thus allowing Garen and Reidd to get a clear view of the rest of the clearing. Unfortunately for them...there wasn't a Charmander in sight. Kyle had already managed to flee into the thick brush around them.
As Kyle continued to make his way through the trees, three familiar voices started sounding around him. The three monkey Pokemon must be trying to chase him down. Two of them seemed to be growing more distant. However, whenever a certain voice would speak, it would be a bit closer every time. Kyle made his way around until finally, he broke the treeline and emerged into the same, large plain as before. He had managed to make his way through the grove and had emerged on another side. In the distance, he could just make out what appeared to be the silhouette of a city or town of some sort.
However, Kyle didn't have time to look at much. From the trees, a quick green blur came flying. The Pansage that it was leaped from a tree and aimed a kick at Kyle's back using his Acrobatics attack. It looks like Garen was back.

As Kyle traversed between the trees, he continued to hear the voices behind him, suggesting that the monkey Pokemon were more prepared for this sort of thing than he had anticipated. For a moment, he was concerned, but every time he heard them, they seemed farther and farther away. 'Looks like I'm losing them...' thought a relieved Kyle as he neared a greater concentration of sunlight before him. As he met the edge of the forest and stepped out into the more open field, he scanned the horizon and sure enough, there were the silhouettes of some larger buildings in the distance. 'Civilization at last!' Kyle rejoiced, eager to at least be surrounded by a crowd. Perhaps there would be someone who could help him in some way...
But something didn't seem right. One of the voices had been consistently stronger than the others, and in his haste he failed to remember whose was whose. Did they split up? If so, who did he lose, and who was still on his tail...?
The moment he turned his back on the distant village to quench his suspicions, he was met with the foot of a very familiar adversary. The force sent him toppling over, sliding in the grass a bit. It felt like there was a lead weight on his chest. Forcing his eyes back open, he saw a glint of green... it was Garen. He had officially landed the first hit... which meant there was no reason to hold back now.
It seemed like his body didn't even give his mind a chance to think. Perhaps it was the fact that he was now one-on-one with a Pokemon he knew he had an advantage against, or just some deep desire for revenge, but before long Kyle had rolled back onto his feet with a flame welling up inside him. Before he realized what was taking place within himself, he released the contained heat in a projectile Ember aimed straight for Garen. Only a single coherent thought surfaced: 'I hope this is over with quickly...'

Garen saw and felt his Acrobatics attack successfully land upon the unsuspecting Charmander. As it did, he springboarded off of the Fire Lizard and backflipped, landing squarely on his feet, as though he'd been practicing that maneuver for his entire life. "Heheh...how'd you like THEM apples, kid?" he said, his voiced filled with cockiness. "Now just come with me back to the others. Once I drag you back, they'll see I'm no klutz. I mean, I know I'm a bit impatient and rash, but that doesn't mea-"
That was all he could mutter. Unfortunately for him, he had been so busy talking that he hadn't realized that Kyle had been able to get back to his feet and retaliate with an Ember attack. The barrage of tiny flames caught him by surprise and he let out a small cry of pain and stumbled backward. The flames caused him to fall over backward and onto his back--just as much in surprise as from the force of the attack. He winced in pain and finally managed to scramble to his feet.
Garen patted himself down and breathed a small sigh of relief that the flames didn't leave a Burn on his body. Then he glared angrilly at Kyle. "What the heck was that all about!?" he growled, shaking his fist at the Charmander. "That could've left a nasty burn you know!"

Kyle watched the attack connect, and he wasn't sure if he regretted it or not. It was successful, but Garen seemed to be treating it more like an unexpected accident than the next move in an ongoing battle. He also didn't seem that damaged by it at all, hinting that perhaps he was stronger than he looked. Either that or Kyle was weaker than he thought.
Then again, it was just an Ember.
Kyle snapped back to the moment, realizing he had taken probably a little too much time to think about it. He was somewhat surprised that the Pansage didn't retaliate right away either. But he certainly couldn't just stand there and analyse the situation. "...you attacked me," Kyle said simply. "You expect me not to fight back? I've gotten this far..." He started to back away. Sure, he'd fight back when the odds were in his favor, or if he at least had a chance, but... at this rate, there was no way he'd be able to take down Garen before the others showed up and overwhelmed him.
However... perhaps he was looking at this the wrong way. This Pansage was trying to prove himself to his peers, who thought poorly of him. Kyle's situation as a human was somewhat the opposite: he thought poorly of himself, but his parents would not give up on trying to help him even though it was in a field he was not interested in - and rather accident-prone in, to boot. Garen's friends, on the other hand, seemed to have dismissed him as a hopeless ditz. Putting himself in his shoes, Kyle realized that not having someone on your side must be harsh.
He stopped, taking a deep breath. It was a long-shot, but if he was right about all of this, he'd get out of trouble with these monkey Pokemon and befriend at least one of them in one fell swoop. "Ok... I'm turning myself in," Kyle surrendered, dropping to his knees. "I see what you're going through... and I've decided to help you out. I don't know what you're going to do to me, but I've already lost everything, without realizing what I've had until it was too late... so whatever happens to me doesn't matter. Take me back to your companions. Show them that you're not completely useless." He got down on his stomach, putting his hands behind his back, and waited to be tied up. He hoped that even if he didn't make it out of this alive, at least he could find comfort in knowing he helped someone fortify his relationships and confidence.

Garen rolled his eyes at the Charmander's words. So what if he had attacked him first? He had been in the middle of a semi-lengthy monologue and had been suddenly--and rudely he might add--interrupted by a sudden burst of fire in his face. In any case, he didn't listen to a word he said at first. He was about to interrupt the Charmander as well...when he suddenly realized what the Fire Lizard Pokemon was actually saying now.
Huh...? He was going to go...without a fight? What kind of trick was this? Nobody in their right mind would simply give up like that and let him do what he wanted to them. After all, he wasn't THAT tough of a monkey...and naturally, there was the fact that everybody around him always called him a klutz, and that certainly didn't help his image or reputation around these parts. But in the end, he saw the Charmander get down onto the ground and put his hands behind his back in a clearly submissive state.
Was this guy for real? Surely there must be some sort of catch here...right? Garen couldn't help but just stand there and stare at the surrendering Charmander, thinking about his situation. Nobody had ever treated him with that much respect before. Sure, he knew his friends liked him and all, but they rarely ever showed it to this extent.
What should he do now? Well, the obvious answer was to drag this Charmander back home again....
Garen swung his tail around and allowed a vine to reach out and grab Kyle and lift him off of the ground. But instead of turning around, he simply held the Charmander in place for a moment, as though giving one last moment of thought to his actions. Finally, he sighed and turned Kyle upright again and set the Charmander back onto his feet. He unwrapped his vine from around Kyle and retracted it.
"...Nah." Garen said simply. "...In all honesty, I don't even think it's worth it. The only reason we caught you anyway was because you were trespassing on our turf. I'm not entirely sure why Bilou wanted me to keep you like she did." He sighed a bit and crossed his arms, thinking about his situation. If he went back empty-handed, though, after taking so long...well...that certainly wouldn't look good on him.
