Stats/Item ListLeo: Alright Mari. We're headed back to the house then. Mari: Noooo. I'm tired of sitting in the house. I want to stay with these guys. Leo: Mari, it isn't safe. Mari: IM STAYIIIIIIIING. *>:C* Leo: FINE. But stay back until I say so. Mari: Yay! *^_^* Mari obediently backs up as you open the hatch. Nothing falls out or jumps out at you, and there haven't been any fiery explosions. So far so good! You crawl up into the hatch, Arnold behind you with the flashlight. You find yourself in a room made entirely of concrete. The walls are lined with shelves. Most of them are empty, but there are a few odds and ends here and there. You see a shelf with some canned food, and two large jugs of water like what you might put in a water cooler at a glance.

Blah: 'Half and half? That was an interesting turn of events.'
*looks around the revealed room* Oh wow! It's an emergency shelter, how ironic... and we even found some food and water still in here. Good to have a back up plan, I suppose, but this food would do better in our fridge for easy access... er, although since it's between our houses maybe we should just leave it here as a sort of neutral, shared storage space. Yeah, I'll go with that. Plus, it sounds like you and your bro were short on food anyway.
I'm curious, what else could there be in here besides food and water...?
>Blah: Examine shelves, scope out the non-consumable items and see if there's anything else worth taking right away.

Leo and Mari make their way through the hatch as well and you all start looking for other supplies.
Leo: I don't know if this is just any kind of emergency shelter. Encased in concrete? And with all these shelves, they had to be filled with food at one point. This looks like it was a bomb shelter. Funny, though. I don't remember there ever being a point in time where a bomb threat seemed imminent. At least not in this city. Arnold: I don't remember anything like that either. I've heard about bomb shelters being found all over the place in other areas, but not here.
You continue to search and find a couple blankets and mats that could be slept on. (Two of each, to be precise) and you find a crank radio.
Arnold: Oh, I've seen one of these. You don't need batteries to use it. You just crank it a whole bunch and then it'll run for a while.
You search and search, but that seems to be the only useful stuff around.
Leo: I don't know. I don't feel all that great about leaving it down here. I'd rather we just take it up to your place and divide it there. I'd hate to close the door considering how hard it was to get open, but with all the rats down here, it probably isn't a good idea to just leave this stuff down here. I don't know that the rats are smart enough to open the cans, but for all we know some of the bigger ones might be able to manage with their teeth.

Blah: Hmm, I'll have to fiddle with this later. *pockets the crank radio*
Yeah, you're right. Let's gather all of the food and divide it up in the light. Maybe you can meet Irene while we're at it. Might as well get to know each other, if we'll be living in close proximity for an indefinite amount of time...
>Everyone: Grab up all the food and water and bring it back to Base Alpha to ration it out.

Leo and Arnold each grab a jug of water, which is about all they can carry. Mari takes one of the blankets and fashions it into a sort of sling in which she can easily carry all the canned food. You're left taking the two mats and the radio wrapped in a similar sling.
Arnold: I don't think we'll be able to pick up those rodent remains on the way back.
You make your way back to the house. You ask Mari to pick up the rats if she can manage it since she's the only one with a free hand, but she refuses.
Mari: No way am I touching those things!
You make your way to the house, finally managing to get everything up the stairs and into the livingroom. Irene is on the couch, finishing up The Destruction of the Game when she sees you.
Irene: Holy crap. What did you find a lost city down there? Where'd all that stuff come from? And who're these guys? Mari: I'm Mari, and this is Leo. We're your neighbors! *^_^* Irene: We had neighbors? In our basement? Call me old fashioned, but when I was younger, neighbors lived next door, not under the floor. Arnold: Hey that rhymed! Irene: Shut up. No-one cares.
*Irene gained 1 literacy point*

Blah: Ahaha. Actually, there's a tunnel in the basement that leads underground to their house's basement. In between is a sort of bomb shelter where we found all of these supplies. Since we both found it, we're going to split it between our two groups.
We'll keep it 50-50, even though there's two of them and three of us, because they say they're running low on food themselves, and we do have the garden. Consider it a house-warming gift from us, if anything.
Speaking of which, how's it coming? Anything edible yet? (yeah yeah I know plants take time to grow. it is an expression.)
>Blah: Count out and split the canned goods in half. >Irene: Status report on the garden.

You start splitting the supplies. You each take a jug of water, and you sort out the cans and divide them based on what's inside. Luckily all of the cans have pull tabs, so there's no worry about finding a way to open them later.
Leo: We don't need the mats or blankets all that much. We moved a mattress into our livingroom, and we have a couple blankets of our own.
You've earned: 30 Servings of water 2 Canned mixed fruit 4 Canned Chicken Soup 3 Canned Corn 3 Canned Green Beans 2 Blankets 2 Sleeping Mats
(Leo takes the same amount of food and water.)
Irene: I did the best I could. I managed to find a couple more plants that looked salvageable. But I wasn't so sure about planting all the seeds. I mean, this is the first time I've actually done much gardening myself, and I'd hate to waste all of our seeds and somehow kill them all. So I just planted a couple of those tomato seeds. I figured we could always get a few more.
Your garden now has: 1 Watermelon Plant 2 Tomato Plants 5 Carrot Plants 2 Tomato Seeds
*Irene gains 1 gardening point*

Blah: Cool, these should last all of us quite a while! You guys can go back to your own place now if you want, and remember, we'll always be a stone's throw away if you need anything.
Nice job, Irene! We do have a bit of wiggle room for learning, so don't worry about planting a whole orchard right away. Or does that just apply to fruit trees? Bah. I don't know.
*looks out the window and sees that the day is nearing its end* Darn, guess we'll have to save outside exploration for tomorrow again... well, I guess we can take the rest of the day off to relax. I kinda wanted to fiddle with this, too. *pulls out the crank radio* A quick scan should tell us if there's any sign of civilization within a fairly wide radius...
>Blah: Operate radio, attempt to find any sort of working station. >Everyone else: Break time!

You start cranking the radio until a red light turns on indicating it's charged. You then start fiddling with the dials; Nothing but static. Irene: I think I'm gonna head outside for some fresh air before bed. *grabs her crutches* Mari: OH! Your ANKLE! I wondered what those crutches were for! *rushes over to Irene* Can I take a look at it? It won't take more than a minute! Leo: Mari, we should be heading home. You don't need to bother- Mari: I'M HELPIIIIIING. *>:U* Irene: Really, it's fine. She said she only wants a minute. I don't see the harm. Leo: Fine. But only a minute. We don't want to be outside when it gets dark. Mari: Oh we're RIGHT next door you big baby. * * Irene sits back down and Mari studies Irene's ankle. Mari: This sprain is a lot worse than it looks. What'd you fall down some stairs or something? Arnold: She fell THROUGH some stairs. Mari: Hm. Even worser. I'm gonna help with that sprain. Leo: MARI. No. You know we aren't supposed to show that to... well... them. Mari: MOM SAID HELPING PEOPLE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, AND I'M HELPING. BESIDES, SHE HAS A PENDANT. Leo: What? *looks at the pendant around Irene's neck* But she couldn't. She isn't... Where did you get this? Arnold: Hey! You took that from my pile! That's mine! I found it in the basement! Irene: I would have given it back eventually... actually... no... I probably wouldn't have. But still. My dad used to say the symbol on this thing had a special power. A sort of good luck charm. I don't remember, really, but it made me feel good having it. Mari: It's not LUCKY. That'd be STUPID. It's MAGIC. Leo: It's not magic, it's a conductor of sorts. Mari: A conductor of MAGIC. Leo: No, and we're not talking about this. We're going home. Mari: Fine. Go home. I'm staying and helping until Irene gets better. Leo: No you're not. Mari: Then admit it's MAGIC. Arnold: BOTH OF YOU. STAHP. A silence falls among the arguing siblings. Arnold: Thank god, that was making my head hurt. Leo: Dang it, it's already dark out. Mari: We could always use our MAGIC. Leo: One, it's not magic. Two, it doesn't matter how much light we have, it's not safe, and thre- Arnold: SHUT UP. Leo, stop trying to hide your magic. Everyone knows and you're going to explain. Leo: It's not mag- Arnold: Shh. Mari, how are you going to help Irene? Mari: Magic. Arnold: Okay but how does that work? Mari: *shrugs* Magic. Arnold: Ugh... this isn't going anywhere.

Blah: ...*puts the radio down and leans back* Eh, I tried.
*listens intently to the conversation*
Well, whatever it's called, it's obvious that you're talking about SOMETHING here. Magic is a short, convenient word we can use to describe it for now, dontcha think?
Anyway, just what is this "magical" conducting force you're going on about? Cause I'm sure nobody would mind you using it to fix Irene's ankle, if that's what you're getting at... *trails off and waits for Mari*

Leo sighs and finally speaks up.
Leo: I know Mari can't explain this very well, so I guess I'll do it. Mari and I are from a culture that has had to hide its abilities from society for a long time now. I'm not sure why we hid it. I always assumed it was because society rejected what we did as witchcraft or something silly like that, but I guess I never really asked. In any case, we use pendants like these. *Leo held up a pendant much like Irene's, but this one had a flame symbol on it* These pendants act as a sort of training wheels for tapping into certain energies. Although, I guess energies isn't even the best word for what we use, but in a way it's an energy. It's actually closer to what you might think of a soul to be. It's not actually energy that you can use to accomplish something. It's more like a will. A will that can shape reality.
Leo:We each have been training with a different type of 'energy.' We both have an affinity to Light that we were each born with. But I've been training to use fire as well, with only a little success. Meanwhile, Mari is actually very handy with a Body affinity. This affinity allows her to do many things involving peoples physical well being, including assisting in healing wounds. If Mari assisted you in the healing process, there's a chance you could make a full recovery in half the time.
Leo: This is only a fraction of what could be said about this 'will', but it serves our purpose. I guess now that you know, though, Mari and I may as well stay and help if you wanted.
Irene: I dunno. This sounds pretty unbelievable. Blah, what do you think?

Blah: Hm.
Hmm.
Hmmmmmmm......
Hm!
*nods* Hrrm.
I want to believe it. This could be post-apocalyptic panic setting in, but I certainly would not rule out the possibility just because it sounds outlandish. Tell you what, I'll believe it when I see it. If it's an actual thing, then let it do the talking. In other words, the suspense is killing me so let's get on with it!

Mari nods and immediately gets to work on Irene's ankle. Things are going well until she suddenly stops.
Mari: Does anyone else hear that?
Everyone stops and listens. Sure enough, a soft banging sound can be heard. Coming from somewhere within the house.
Leo gets up and starts trying to find the source of the sound. He eventually narrows it down to a door in the corner.
Leo: This has gotta be where it's coming from. Something has to be inside there. Arnold: Huh... that's weird. I don't remember looking behind that door when we searched the house. Leo: We probably shouldn't open it. It could be something dangerous. Arnold: Are you kidding me? I'm not going to leave something alive in there. What if it gets out while we're asleep! We should deal with it, right now!

Blah: Yes, it could be something dangerous. This is exactly why we need to find out what it is right now.
*draws shovel and approaches the door as silently as he can muster*
>Blah: Open the door, ready to strike at the first hint of danger.

Upon opening the door, something falls out, and appears to struggle a bit on the floor. It's hard to make out what it is, but it doesn't look like it's attacking.
Leo produces a light from seemingly nowhere. Upon closer inspection, it looks as though he's actually shooting a beam of light from his hand. It's not too bright, but it's bright enough to make out what the figure is.
It appears to be a person! Bound and gagged! A boy about Irene and Leo's age. Unable to do anything, he just sits on the ground. Struggling.
Arnold: Oh. Probably should have checked a bit more carefully then. Irene: You THINK? How long has he even been IN there? Quick! Get that gag off of him!

Blah: What the... oh my god?!
*puts down the shovel and starts helping the boy remove the gag and the bindings*
Somebody fetch some food and water for this poor kid! Who knows how long he's been in here without sustenance...
>Blah: Ungag/untie this unfortunate soul. >Anyone else: Fetch a ration each of food and water.

The boy spits in disgust at the gag being removed from his mouth.
"Jeez, thought I'd never get out of there." he says in a raspy, tired voice. "Thank you kind folks..."
His eyes dart around the room, trying to measure the intents of his saviors. Honestly, he figures they're just as surprised as he is.
"Well." the boy speaks after a small pause to regain his composure. "My name is Mike. I'd be really grateful if you could help me out of these ropes..." he wiggles a bit for effect.

Arnold, as though apologizing for not finding the boy sooner, grabs some water and a banana from the kitchen and brings it over.
Arnold: Uhh... *drops Banana and Water near Mike and freezes up* Mari: Why was he in your closet? Did he do something wrong? Irene: I have a feeling he's only still in there because Arnold is an idiot. Someone untie him already. Leo: *unties the rope around Mikes wrist, leaving only the rope around his ankles*

Blah: *finishes untying the ropes around Mike's ankles and helps him up* That outta do it... anyway, help yourself to that banana and water.
My name's Blah. This is Arnold, Irene, Leo, and Mari.
So... *still kind of in shock from what just transpired* what's your story? How did you end up in the closet, and what do you remember happening before this all started?

(in first person from now on)
*pauses, then furrows brow in concentration*
Let's see... there was panic... a riot... I remember... yelling at them to stop, yes. All of a sudden someone shoved me against the wall and tied me up. Then they threw me in here. I seem to remember one of them saying... I knew too much?
*scratches head, then with a sheepish smile*
Well, ironically, I don't know much any more.
*stretches sore limbs and snatches the banana up*
Jeez, I'm hungry. So... *takes a bite* you guys have any idea whats happening or has the whole world just gone mad?
