Stats/Item ListIrene: I may as well. Surely I'll have plenty of time to sit on my butt while you guys search the basement. As you walk out to the garden, Arnold holds up the leaves of a plant in the garden. Arnold: Hey guys. Good to see I'm finally getting some he- Irene: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Arnold: I'm weeding. Irene: You pulled out a LIVE TOMATO PLANT! Arnold: But I... Irene: Give me your gloves. Now. I'm going to see if I can't replant those tomatoes. Go kill some more rats or something. Arnold: ...Okay. Blah? What do you think? Should I... Uh... I mean... I'm not that good at gardening anyway... *Arnold lost 1 point of Gardening*

Blah: *cringes a bit at Irene's shouting*
Hmm. I did want to check out the rest of that basement.
...Well, Irene, if you're ok with tending to the garden by yourself, I'm just gonna take Arnold far away from it. No offense. *:L*
>Irene: Do the planty thing. >Blah and Arnold: Finish scoping out the basement.

Arnold: None taken.
Arnold hands Irene his work gloves before following you to the basement.
As you make your way down the steps with your flashlight, you hear a bit of movement coming from somewhere near the bottom of the steps.
Arnold: Probably just another rat. Anyway, you said there was more to see in this basement somewhere?

Blah: Yep, there's a door that's barricaded with a table and a lot of boxes. It'd take forever to move all that stuff myself.
*readies his shovel* You can never be too careful. That rat may have cowered away from us last time but it might have called for backup and is looking for revenge for its fallen comrade. Yes, rats do these things.
>Blah and Arnold: Make way to the blocked door, watching for rats and other hazards along the way.

Arnold follows you to the blocked door without seeing a single rat. You think you can hear some on the opposite side of the basement, but it's hard to tell for sure.
Arnold takes a look at the stack of boxes and the table.
Arnold: Wow. It almost looks like someone REALLY didn't want that door opened.

Blah: Which is exactly why we're going to open it right now! The way I see it, this house's previous owners had something they wanted to hide, protect, or contain... and that's a 2/3 chance of it being something sweet. A passing grade!
No, I'm not nervous at all about what might be behind this door, nor am I stalling. Whatever gave you that idea?
...welp, here goes nothing.
>Blah and Arnold: Clear the area in front of the door and open it.

You start to clear out the boxes under the table. Between the two of you it doesn't take terribly long at all. Going through the boxes might be a different story, but after you clear out the boxes, you manage to get the table far enough from the door to open it.
Upon opening the door you shine your flashlight inside and look around, cautiously stepping in. You hear movement and immediately look for it. You see not one, not two, but five giant rats. And they don't look too happy either.

You successfully smack a rat with your shovel, and the rat is thrown against the nearest wall where it drops to the ground, completely limp.
A second rat rushes at Arnold who manages to crush it into the ground with his baseball bat.
A couple of the rats attempt to retreat, but only one succeeds at hiding himself in the darkness, unable to be seen.
One of the remaining rats rushes at you trying to claw you, but he somehow falls over. You have no idea what's up with that.

Blah: Heck yeah, nice work!
*looks over at the rat that slipped* ...how do you even.
Whatever. Let's finish this!
>Blah: Put failrat out of its misery. >Arnold: Show that last rat that THERE IS NO ESCAPE. Aside from the one that escaped, that is.

You smash your shovel on top of the fallen rat while Arnold crushes the remaining rat.
*Arnold gains 1 point in Blunt Combat* *Blah gains 1 point in Cleaving, Blunt Combat*
With the rats gone, you're able to get a closer look at the rest of the room. If you could call it that.
The room is a mess. There's debris everywhere, and looking at the center of the room you can see why. Halfway across the room there's a large gap in the floor, stretching from one wall to the other. It's like a trench that separates you from the opposite wall. As you approach the trench, you can see that it doesn't stop at the wall. The trench is actually a tunnel that extends beyond the foundation of the house. It's impossible to tell how far it goes from where you are, but it looks like it must have taken quite a bit of effort to dig the concrete out of the floor to make this. Certainly more power than any of those rats had.

Blah: Sweet. Hey Arnold, looks like you've got a bit more kitchen work to do! *catches sight of the trench* ...in a bit.
Oh look, an unnatural trench dug out of the basement of a house that must have taken a considerable amount of power to create. Better immediately jump inside without asking questions and take a look!
*jumps down into the trench and turns on the flashlight*
>Blah: Scope out that tunnel, see if I can get an idea of how far it goes. If it looks safe enough, curiously wander inside a ways.

Arnold groans as he starts gathering up rat carcasses into a pile to bring upstairs later.
Meanwhile, you get a closer look at the trench. The sides and floor appear to be fairly flat, as if it were man-made, but unfinished. Like someone planned to pour concrete at some point, but never got to that part. A look down the tunnel reveals pretty much the same thing. You can't see very well into the tunnel, but it looks to be a straight shot for a while. You think you can make out something hanging from the ceiling partway in, but it's hard to tell.

Blah: Curiouser and curiouser... Well, it'll be hard to get lost in here so I don't see any reason why I can't take a peek. You can either come along or stay behind, your choice. If you stay though, you should probably get to work on those carcasses.
*laughs silently to himself as he starts down the tunnel*
>Blah: Investigate tunnel.

Arnold: Yeah, screw that. *follows, whee*
As you make your way down the tunnel, the thing hanging from the ceiling comes into focus. It appears to be some kind of hatch with a wheel on the front that looks like it could be turned to unlatch the door. The tunnel continues past the hatch, but you still can't see what could be at the other end.
Arnold: I wonder where that leads to. I mean, we're already underground.

Blah: Hmm... Well, no point in just sitting here waiting to hatch a plan of action. This is the wheel deal. Surely there must be something of valve behind this valve. Just know that if something bad happens, it's not my vault.
...Ok, I'm all out.
>Blah: Open the hatch!

*Blah loses another point of Pun*
You grab the wheel and turn it... but it doesn't budge. You try harder and harder... as hard as you can, but you can't get the wheel to budge, even a little bit.
Arnold: Here, let me try.
You both try to turn the wheel, but no matter how hard you try, you can't get it to move at all.

Blah: Huff. Whew. Ok. That didn't work. Guess we'll have to come back later... I dunno, maybe Irene has an idea of what to do to open this.
Or maybe the answer is on the other end of this tunnel. Though I'm not sure if this is a problem that can be defined with a clear answer, maybe it's just old and rusty and aged shut and there's no logical way to open it.
Regardless, I really want to see where this tunnel leads. Maybe there are more doors that work?
>Blah and Arnold: Continue exploring tunnel.

You continue down the tunnel. Not too far down you realize the tunnel no longer has a ceiling. You stand up and find yourself in another room. As far as you know that tunnel didn't go up or down, so you're probably still underground.
At least this room LOOKS like another basement anyway. You get a good look around. There's not much in here. Some broken concrete like last time, but this time it appears someone tried to block the only door out with a bookcase. Everything else in the room appears to be broken pieces of chairs or tables or boxes that have been eviscerated leaving their contents, mostly appearing to be glass, to shatter on the floor.

Blah: Hmm! If I didn't know any better, I'd say this lead us to another house. Maybe the previous owners dug out a hasty escape tunnel of some kind, and that hatch is where it leads out... either way, it's nice to have another structure we can take shelter in if we need to!
...you know what, I have an idea. Let's go to this house's backyard and greet Irene from there. She couldn't possibly expect that! We'll pick up anything interesting we see along the way.
But first thing's first, help me move this bookcase.
>Blah and Arnold: Move bookcase and explore the rest of this basement.
