[This is a continuation of this thread from the old site] Rizor stared down at what seemed to be a Ponyta skull. He wasn't sure but it didn't seem very large to him. 'Oh my gosh, the poor thing, it must have been just a baby!' It was also possible that the sand had worn down on the skull and that had made it appear smaller, but Rizor didn't really think of that. Rizor listened to what Jared had to say and became increasingly nervous as he continued. 'He seemed like he knew what he was doing...I just hope he didn't drop us right into a trap.' he thought. However Rizor did take his advice. As he left the skull behind his ears perked up and his piercing red eyes continually scanned the surrounding landscape. This was kind of difficult though, because of the bright blazing sun and the light reflective sand. Rizor was hoping that the next thing that they would stumble upon would be something good rather than the grains of sand and the skull that they had found so far.

The site of the Pokemon skull made Frank's stomach turn. It was like the desert was telling them "Hey, this what you'll turn into if you aren't careful!". What was even worse was how nervous Jared was when they saw the skull. It wasn't as though the Kadabra lost his mind or anything, but it wasn't very comforting either. "Hey, buddy! Ya know where we're going, right? I ain't here ta die ya know! There better be some treasure here in da desert." Frank half grumbled, half yelled at Jared, who seemed a little startled. "Why yes! Of course I know where I'm going! Why would you ask such a silly questions?" But Jared knew the answer just by probing around in Frank's mind a little more.
'...That. Well...' Jared looked back at the Ponyta skull and shivered. "Excuse me if I don't like the idea of death." That was all he would say on the matter. 'What these two don't understand is that it's a Fire-type's skull...it WAS a Ponyta. And Fire-types don't usually succumb to desert heat. We could have a carnivore on our hands!' He just shook his head and sighed. His companions weren't the kind to pay attention to details. Especially Frank, who was just glaring at the Kadabra now. "Did ya read my mind again!?" He asked, noticing that Jared looked back at the skull.
'Garbage...' Frank's mind roared, but he didn't say anything else to Jared and turned back to Rizor. " Hey, Rizor! Do you see anything else out there?" He asked. But even with all of Rizor's scanning, he would only be able to see sand, more sand, and the heat rising off of that sand. The only option for right now seemed to be walking.

Rizor put one hand over his eyes to shield them from the blinding sun and turned around to reply to Frank. "Nope, I can't see diddly besides all this great warm sand." If Rizor was still a human he would not describe the sand as "great" or "warm," these adjectives would probably be replaced with something close to "terrible" and "blistering." However, as a Sandshrew it actually made him feel quite at home. "Oh, and Jared, Frank, quit your bickering, this is no time for it. We are all friends here and we have a new goal to work towards together! Plus, we have to be careful if we don't want to end up like that skull back there."[/color]
Rizor had called them all friends but even he himself wasn't so sure. He was normally quick to take a liking to anyone and anything really, but he hadn't made his mind up about Jared yet. There was something about Jared being able to snoop around in their minds whenever he wanted that unsettled Rizor just a little bit. 'I bet he's a good person! Yeah, everyone has some good in them at least!' This is what was on the surface of his brain but deeper layers of thought weren't so sure. "Anyways, lets get going! No rest for the weary~!" Rizor trudged on through the sand leading the way for the others.

One of Jared's eyebrows twitched. He heard Frank's insult without even directly reading his mind; The thought was that loud! 'I'm going to ignore that.' He thought a bit sourly, throwing a glare in Frank's direction. Rizor's optimism was a welcome distraction from Frank's bitterness. The way Jared saw it, Rizor was going to have to make up for Frank's lack of participation. At least they were both Ground-types. That meant he wouldn't have to do any of the digging. Frank was greedy enough and sure to help dig if there was treasure involved. All Jared had to do was lead them to the spot where the treasure was buried and survive at the same time.
Speaking of spots... "Wait up lads." Jared walked after them as quickly as possible for a Kadabra in sand. He pulled out a very crinkly, old looking map and started looking at it as soon as he caught up with them. "We need to go North for about...one more mile. Then we'll need to go east for about...four more miles." This all sounded like a lot more walking. Frank started grit his teeth. "Are you kiddin' me? This treasure better be worth it mac'."He said grumpily. Jared just sighed. "Yes, yes, very worth it." He looked up from the map.
There didn't seem to be anything around for miles. It was still all just sand. Sand, sand, and more sand. But it wasn't like they could expect anything else. Jared started walking, though as a slower pace then Rizor and Frank, and still with the map out.

As Rizor listened to Jared describing which way they needed to go he became more determined than ever. He began holding up his fingers to count '...1...then add 4...makes 5!' "Just five miles? That's it? Well, I could walk that much in my sleep if it was for any friend o' mine!"[/b] Rizor's cheerful spirit was unwavering and persistent. It was almost as if he was in his own little world where nothing could go wrong.
Rizor glanced over his shoulder to see how Jared was doing and instantly noticed the map he was carrying. "Hey, I didn't know you had a map! That's neat!" Rizor leaped almost a foot in the air as he circled back to walk next to Jared. He tried looking over Jared's shoulder at the map. Even though Rizor had originally agreed to this little quest in the first place just to help Jared out and maybe get a little something for his trouble, he had become quite curious about what exactly they were after. "Hey Jared, what exactly is it that we are looking for? If you have a map of it you must know what it is! Ooh, tell me tell me PLEAASEEE." Rizor's eyes began to shimmer as he begged shamelessly for the information he so desired.

Poor Jared was surprised when Rizor nearly jumped at him and started begging for information. Psychic-type or not, he couldn't have seen that coming. Rizor was basically the definition of spontaneity. And Frank had wandered over too by that point. "Hey, yeah. What kind of treasure are we talking here, huh? It better be something good. Nice and shiny. Valuable too! None of that iron crap! Shiny or not, dat doesn't count. " He continued to ramble on until Jared simply shoved the map in their faces. "Here. See for yourselves."
The map wasn't very big, but it was soft, fragile, and browning with age. The route to the treasure, which was marked by a classic dashed line, looked kind of hazy and unclear. It was measured in miles, conveniently enough. And as Jared had said, the route went one mile north and four south. But at the end of the first mile, there was a large smug before going to the east. Someone had spilled something (maybe some berry juice) over the spot. Whatever was there before was now unreadable. Also, there were some faded spots along the eastern path. The map seemed easy enough, but it wasn't entirely clear if one looked closely enough.
