The Lombre watched as Doug disappeared from the ground. "Huh...?" he started. But a moment later, he felt another blow strike the back of his head. At the same time, he felt the unseen force that had gripped him in the air diminish until it was gone completely, causing him to fall victim to not only his attacker's kick but also to the forces of gravity. He plummeted helplessly toward the ground and smashed into the earth below. This caused an eruption of dust and dirt to get flung up into the air, obscuring the vision of the area surrounding him.
For a moment, there was silence. In this silence, Jet thought that perhaps Doug had finished the battle already. It certainly wouldn't surprise him. After all, Doug had done rather well in the Wish Festival tournament. It would take a special kind of Pokémon to be able to withstand his attacks for long. However, he soon got his answer to that possibility.
From the dust cloud, something was fired, aimed upward at the Abra. The attack consisted of another large, spiraling burst of water...another Hydro Pump attack! The Lombre had launched the attack in the hopes of catching the Abra off-guard. He could feel the effects of firing off such powerful attacks one after another starting to take its toll on him, though...but he didn't care. If he could take the Abra down, then it would be all worth it.
Jet watched the Hydro Pump get launched out of the dust cloud and directly up at Doug. However, he didn't break his focus. Doug could take care of himself he was sure. he kept his gaze fixed on the dust cloud...and soon enough, he made out the form of the Lombre. But something was different about him this time. His shoulders were slumped slightly compared to what they had been earlier and his arms lower. Could he be tiring out...?
And then it hit him. The Lombre had fired off multiple powerful attacks, one after another rather recklessly. Perhaps he didn't have the stamina to back it up? In which case...perhaps they could wrap things up quickly if they could take him by surprise...hit him with something unexpected. But Doug only had so many options available to him for attacking. In that case, an unexpected move would have to come from himself. But the problem with that was his typing and the attacks he knew. He had Sonicboom, but that probably wasn't strong enough in a tournament like this. He also had Quick Attack and Pursuit...but he didn't feel like he had the power to hit hard enough with those attacks. And that was when the idea struck.
Doug was really keeping the Lombre busy out there. The Lombre had never cast so much as a single glance in his direction throughout the entirety of the fight. Maybe he could use that.... If Doug could keep up his distraction, he could come from the side and hit with his strongest attack that he could reliably pull off; a move that would normally leave him a sitting duck while he charged it up that didn't rely on his physical strength: Razor Wind.
However, what if the attack wasn't enough to finish the Lombre off? Then he could leave himself wide open to another attack and his opponent would probably never be taken off-guard like that again for the rest of the battle. In that case, he would need to restrict the Lombre's movements as much as possible. But how could he do that? After a moment of thought, he came up with what could potentially be an answer: the terrain of the battlefield! If he and Doug could coordinate their movements so that his attack could force the Lombre up against a wall of one of the nearby buildings, they could cut off his escape routes from further attacks. It was as close to a perfect plan as he was going to get right now.
He looked over toward Doug. He knew about Doug's ability to pick up on other peoples' thoughts. And without a crowd around him, he should be able to "hear" him a lot more clearly. He looked for some kind of sign that Doug had heard and understood his plan as he thought it up. Once he got an okay, then he could start readying himself by charging the Razor Wind attack.
