Kail clung to her umbrella for dear life. The City wasn't exactly cooperating tonight. Kail had planned on collecting more food as her supply had recently been lost; apparently eaten by her industrial freezer, which had proceeded to turn into a ballroom. The chandeliers were very appealing visually, but they weren't terribly edible.
As soon as she had gotten past the point where she couldn't see her personal headquarters, a fast food joint, the City seemed to feel it necessary to start a downpour. And now that she had pulled out her umbrella, the wind had also picked up. She knew she had to find shelter quickly, but every door she tried seemed to be locked.
Finally, after several doors and an umbrella blown away in the wind, she managed to yank one open. She hadn't taken a good look at the outside, but at this point she wasn't picky.
The lines of shelves and a few outdated computers seemed to suggest a library. She walked to the nearest shelf and cracked open a random book. More useless gibberish. She debated whether or not to put the book back before heading over to what appeared to be a reading area with a few sofas set up. She then proceeded to tear out the first page and folded it a few times. After fashioning a small paper airplane, she gave it a once over before speaking to it. "I guess it's just you and me until this storm clears up," she whispered as she launched the plane toward a random row of shelves.

Silas cursed excessively under his breath as he ran through the rain, attempting in vain to use his wings as a shield against the downpour. He'd been on the run from... something, he didn't really remember now, probably a cop, but whatever it was had led him to try and dart into a random door to escape, and that had apparently been a bad move. Instead of leading into a safe building, the door had somehow led to a large city, in which it was currently raining heavily. The harpy had tried to go back through the door and take his chances with his pursuer, but it had been closed and locked. Attempts to break it down failed.
So here he was, stuck in the rain in a seemingly empty city, trying desperately to get into any of the nearby buildings, only to find every door locked tight. Well, almost every door. He finally found one that opened and quickly ducked inside, slamming it behind him and collapsing onto the floor in a dripping, feathery mess. He just sat there for a few minutes, trying to regain his breath, and soon recovered enough to stand up and look around.
He was actually a little excited to discover that he had ended up in a library, and curiously grabbed a random book from a shelf-- and was quickly disappointed in that it contained complete and utter gibberish. Were these even letters? Ugh.
He put the book back and tried another, and another, and another, only to find that they all contained the same kinds of nonsense. Disheartened, the harpy shook out his feathers a bit and walked further into the library. After some aimless wandering through the shelves, he came across a small denlike area with chairs and sofas-- and, to his surprise, a person. A human woman, holding a book that looked like it'd had a page torn out. He had no idea who she was, of course, but something about the woman gave Silas an odd feeling of apprehension. Arguably he felt that about most people he didn't know, humans especially, but this was different. Instinctively, he ducked behind a shelf to watch her, though he realized that she had probably already noticed him. Couldn't hurt to try anyway.

Seraphina sat in the middle of the street, feeling the rain pour all over her skin and drip off drop by drop. She wasn't entirely sure how she got there; she only vaguely remembered her last intention, which was to teleport home or somewhere close, but instead of a bustling city or familiar wilderness, she found herself surrounded by wet, barren concrete and metal. She considered the possibility that she had fallen asleep sometime between the teleport and that moment, as Abra tend to sleep for most of the day, but she at least knew that she had already been awake for a while.
It was quite a puzzle, which was frustrating for a Psychic-type Pokemon, creatures who are notorious for being aware of their surroundings. And the rain certainly didn't help matters. Shifting her thought processes towards the short term, she sought shelter from this blasted weather so that she may better clear her mind. Blinking to and fro, she covered a lot of ground in the city without finding a single awning, ledge, or structure that could shield the rain. She also did not detect a single living being. For the first time, Sera found her mind completely empty with nothing but her own thoughts.
Entering buildings was also out of the question. No door would budge to her telekinesis, and while doors are no obstacles to those who can traverse outside of space, the destination must be clear in the blinker's mind, and Sera had no familiarity with the city whatsoever.
Just when she thought about giving up and accepting her fate, her mind's ear picked up a faint voice, followed by another. She blinked closer to the thoughts' origins, paying more attention to the location rather than the content. Whoever they were, they probably knew at least SOMETHING about this city. Or at least they had shelter.
A few more short-range teleports later, Sera stumbled across the building which housed the minds she had followed: a library. She tried the door, and sure enough, it opened. Getting a good mental image of the interior, she discreetly blinked inside atop a shelf, softly closing the door behind her.
The two life-forms, as Sera identified them, were not interacting with each other at that moment. One of them was a (female) human, the other was not; in fact, he was a species that Sera did not recognize, but was sentient nonetheless. Having finally found a quiet place to settle down, she cleared her mind and projected a thought to the two. 'You two seem to be the only beings in this city other than myself,' she began in a tone that might come off as urgent to the particularly observant. 'I would appreciate an explanation of where I am and why I am here.' She normally would not have revealed herself right away, but when she wanted answers, she never held back.

Kail saw a flash of color duck behind a nearby bookcase and immediately focused her attention there. "Well then, Leopold Pushbottom, it appears we DO have company," Kail muttered to her airplane.
She paused for a second, aware of both the psychic presence and the presence of whatever it was that ducked behind the shelf. The thought did say 'you two' anyway, so there had to be someone else around here. "I'm not sure why you expect answers from anyone else as to why you're here. I have about as much information about that as you do. In fact, if you think back hard enough, I think you'll find that you were the one who came here, as opposed to here coming to you. That's how it is most of the time anyway."
"And as for you mister blur. Not much point in hiding anymore unless you've got more to hide than your presence. I might have been convinced I was just seeing things the first time I saw you. That happens more often than you think. But the psychic one gave you away," Kail observed.
"Now that we've established that you're the ones who've dropped in uninvited, I think it's time you both came out here and explained yourselves," Kail insisted. This wasn't her first rodeo. Well... figurative rodeo. She had never been to an actual rodeo. So if this was an actual rodeo, then it would be her first rodeo. But it wasn't an actual rodeo. So it wasn't her first rodeo.
Kail really wanted to go to a rodeo.

Sera bowed her head ever-so-slightly in disappointment. This new environment would take a lot of getting used to, and she supposed it didn't matter where she was as long as she was still alive and had the means to keep it that way, but she couldn't help but think there was something important... somewhere that she was needed.
Feeling the need to retaliate, Sera blinked on top of a desk near Kail. 'I noticed you only answered one half of my question,' she coldly pointed out. 'Where am I. What is this city, and why is it deserted and locked down so tightly.' She inhaled and exhaled slowly, noticing that her heart rate was starting to quicken. Calming down, she continued. 'As for myself, you may call me Seraphina. I attempted to teleport somewhere else, and wound up here. All other recollections are fuzzy at this point, most likely from the shock of it all, so I am unable to tell you more. Now, if you would please answer my previous question, we should have no problems co-existing.'

Silas jolted as he suddenly heard a foreign voice in his head and quickly attempted to find the source. As soon as he had-- a small catlike creature sitting atop a nearby shelf-- the human woman spoke up and made it clear that she was aware of Silas' presence, thanks in part to the psychic cat.
The harpy muttered a quiet string of expletives and stepped out from behind the shelf, glaring intensely at both the human and the cat-thing. "If I knew how or why I got here, I can fuckin' guarantee I wouldn't be here anymore," he growled, highly irritated. "The hell's the deal with this place, anyway? I went through a door into some random building and it led to a completely different city. What the fuck can even make shit like that happen?"

Kail once again replied to the thoughts vocally. "Well then I'm afraid we're going to have problems co-existing; I already said I don't have answers to your questions. The City is a city. It does what it does. What exactly that is, or how it goes about doing that is beyond me to explain."
Kail covered her face in frustration. "Yes I KNOW this isn't where you were trying to go or you wouldn't be COMPLAINING so much. But maybe if you can tell me WHERE it is you were trying to go or WHY you wanted to get there it might clear some things up for me and then we might be able to figure out what's going on." Kail wasn't letting the appearance of her new friends shake her at all, shocking though they may be. She had experience with things she didn't expect being in places she didn't expect them to be.
"So you give me answers there's a chance I can give you some. Otherwise, I'm sorry but you may as well make yourselves at home, because you're going to be here as long as the city keeps you here."

Seraphina let her posture slouch upon hearing Kail's words. A quick examination of the woman's surface thoughts told her nothing more, and only confirmed that she legitimately didn't know much about this city either. All three of them were more or less in the same boat, especially if Sera couldn't remember much more about where she was, and where she was going before being snatched by this apparently sentient and potent city. It was almost as if that part of her memory was being blocked out by something.
'I wish I could remember what I was doing before I got here,' she projected. 'For all I know, I may have angered some powerful psychic entity who banished me here as punishment. That is my best guess. Not that I would go out of my way to do such a thing.'
'Oh well...' Sera began, sighing almost audibly, 'being stranded in an unfamiliar environment with strangers is at least better than being stranded here alone. We do not have to be strangers, though. I have introduced myself already, would you mind doing the same?'

Silas hissed quietly through gritted teeth, then tried to calm down enough to remember how he'd gotten to the odd city. "Fuck, I don't... I was running from something. I think. I tried to duck into a random building to hide and I came out here," he explained, somehow struggling to recall events from only a few minutes ago. He seemed to be, like Sera, suffering from some kind of block on his memory.
He glanced at the psychic as she asked for the others' names, and sighed before answering, still somewhat irritable. "Silas," he said simply, not entirely keen on revealing his full name just yet.

"No no, I really doubt something else brought you here," Kail began, "The City isn't really that simple, like a hole you can push someone into or something. I have every reason to believe there's no way to control it: what it does, who it brings in, where they come from. I'm still clinging to some hope that there's some way to sit down and have a chat with it. Negotiate even. Assuming it's even something that can be communicated with. But banish someone here? Anyone who could do that would have to have something far more powerful than some psychic ability. Beings that can control some force of nature don't just show up every day, and I assure you, whatever this city is, it makes nature look like small potatoes."
Suddenly Kail remembered why she was here in the first place. Food. But not potatoes though. Potatoes were bland. But she couldn't really decide what she was going to have until she found a grocery store or something. This wasn't a grocery store. Where was she? Oh right, introductions.
"I'm Kail," she said to Silas "Nice to meet you. By the by, did either of you see any place you might get food on your way in? Bah, it probably doesn't matter it'd be gone by now anyway. Well, if it's going to rain we probably shouldn't waste our time sitting around. I'm going to go look around. If you see any rooms that don't look like a room you would find in a library, give me a holler." at this point, her gaze shifted from Silas to the Abra "Or a... mind holler. Whatever you call it."
With that she walked off. She still wasn't sure why these people were here, but it was clear the city had put them here, intentionally or otherwise. She needed to figure out what to do with them. Was it as simple as interaction? Probably not, but this was the biggest lead she had at the moment.

Sera loosened up a bit, glad to hear a formal introduction from each of them. Sure, she could have read their minds to find out their names, but that took a lot of the fun out of things and would have defeated the purpose of getting everyone to lighten up and open themselves a little. Although "a little" was kind of an overstatement in this case.
What she didn't have qualms about when it came to mind-reading, however, was extracting information that turned out to be helpful to her or an ally's cause. And so, she couldn't help but poke around in Silas's mind a little bit, only to run into another mental block, much similar to the one within her own mind, the one she suspected to have been planted there by some third party. Once again, she wound up mildly disappointed and frustrated.
Surface thoughts, on a third hand, were kind of a gray area, and Kail's thoughts about food reminded Sera just how long it was since she had last eaten. Which was a good thing, perhaps getting some sustenance would help her think more clearly. That or put her to sleep, which oddly enough was when she thought the most clearly anyway. 'I will let you know if I find any--'
CRASH! The sudden noise instilled an instantaneous reaction in the Abra as she teleported to the opposite corner of the room. Looking across, the source of the noise was apparent - it seemed an entire bookshelf had fallen over, far enough away that it couldn't have caused any harm, and with no provocation from any force that she could see.
Curiously, Sera blinked next to the crash site, where the books had collapsed into a disorganized foot-high pile. Shortly after appearing there, a book slid off of the pile and into her lap. The cover bore a picture of a running white stallion. Following the horse book were several boxes of pasta, which Sera backed herself up from to keep from getting buried, and following that were cans of vegetables, seasonings, an entire cookbook's worth of ingredients. And then a cookbook. It was at that point that Sera realized that half of the contents of the fallen shelf had apparently been things one might find in a pantry.
'Well. Problem solved, I suppose.'

Kail came running back in after hearing the crash. "For petes sake, I leave you two alone for two seconds and yo- FOOD!" Kails demeanor immediately changed as she dove toward the boxes of pasta. After grabbing a few boxes and kissing them, she paused. If food showed up as soon as I left, then that must mean the city doesn't want me to go anywhere. Now the question is, do I listen or not? Oh crap, did I think that out loud?
Kail suddenly found herself looking around to see if anyone noticed. Then, realizing she looked suspicious, she called out. "Hey! Winged dude! S... See... SILO! Come help me sort out this food."
