((Guess who's back in the saddle again? :L))
Name: Kyle Fintan
Nickname: Kyle, Kai (which he hates)
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Starter: Charmander
Starting Power: 30
Starting Money: 380
Appearance: A relatively normal Charmander coloration-wise, though a little on the pale side. His scars and singes carried over from humanhood.
Personality: Kyle is a very clumsy and awkward person by nature, and so he tends to over-think things a lot. Nearly every action he takes requires several minutes of thought, and he is not a big risk-taker whatsoever. Thus he will go out of his way to make sure whatever he's doing is safe. Years of practice in this category has allowed him a faster and more logical mind than most, and yet he still finds ways to get himself in danger. He also has a tendency to assume and overlook things regardless of how much thought he puts into them, usually resulting in his eventual failure and/or painful bodily injuries.
When he's not worrying about his life, he likes to partake in strategic exercises, to keep his mind sharp. He would make a fine general, issuing orders from the sidelines, as long as he doesn't get directly involved in anything. When he's not threatened by anything, his thoughts are clear and concise. But it doesn't help that fire is extremely bothersome for him. If there is even a remote chance that any random object could burst into flame, then he panics and loses the sound state of mind that allows him to avoid such situations.
Nature: Timid, Strategic
Biography: Kyle was born an only child into a fairly average family, who was comfortable when it came to finances but there wasn't much room for luxury. His father was a welder, and very passionate about his job. He had always wanted to introduce his son to the art of welding as soon as he was old enough, but a welding accident when Kyle was 4 nearly burned their house down, leaving him with a permanent phobia of fire. Kyle's father has desperately tried since then to teach him how fire can be controlled and really isn't that bad, but his efforts usually end unsuccessfully.
Instead, Kyle took up video games as a hobby, particularly online games, real-time strategy, or both. History was his best subject in school, and he especially appreciated the art of war. At the age of 9, he secretly drew up a plan for a hypothetical army of grade-schoolers to overthrow the principal and the entire educational system; these plans were soon intercepted by another concerned student who thereby ratted him out. This got him a stern talking to from both the principal and his parents, who began to question if Kyle's hobbies may be getting out of hand.
They began to try and shoo him away from his strategy games, and get him to at least humor them for a while and try some of the "harmless" welding experiments his father set up for him, but every time he ended up with some kind of burn or injury. Since then, Kyle has kept at least two fire extinguishers in his room at all times. But his parents would not give up.
When he entered high school at 15, they offered a welding course. Naturally, his parents forced him to enroll. The next day, he was rushed to the hospital with several second-degree burns. Apparently one entire wing of the school caught fire. Kyle and fire simply did not mix, and his parents didn't seem to understand this. They figured it was just an accident, and when he recovered he would return to school and continue his schedule as normal. This greatly upset Kyle, but there was nothing he could do to change their minds.
It was while he was in the hospital that he heard the voice. "Come with me," it said, in a voice whose very sound seemed to soothe Kyle's pain, "and neither fire nor your parents will be a problem for you any longer." A portal opened at the foot of the hospital bed. "Enter the portal, and emerge in a world where you retain control of your own life." He hesitated for a while, thinking it over. Surely he would get nowhere on his own dreams in this world. It was either trust this portal or trust his parents. And he was desperate for a chance to get away from fire for good. So he crawled out of bed, not even caring about the pain at this point, and jumped right in.
