((A/N: *inhale* Alright kids, this has a very long background story, so you might want to get comfortable, get some popcorn and enjoy a hopefully interesting (or at least not silly) background.))
Name: Herbrandt Corliss, Jr.
Nickname: "StarFist" - but everyone'll end up calling him Herb.
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Starter: Tyrogue
Starting Power: 100
Starting Money: 100
Appearance: A normal Hitmonchan, but instead of red boxing gloves, he has blue ones, though the left glove has a yellow six-pointed star on it and the right glove has a red heart on it.
(if Tyrogue, a normal Tyrogue except with a star on his left hand and a love-heart on his right hand).
Personality: Always looking for the next challenge in life, Herbrandt - or "Starfist" as he goes by in fighting - loves to fight and doesn't back down under pressure. Everything in front of him is just a challenge to be conquered. He can be single-minded towards a goal when it comes but not to the point of suicide. Not the strategic sort, Herbrandt is the kind of fighter that prefers to take what damage he can and dish out twice the pain. He can often be overbearing in his speech - sometimes to the point of seeming lunacy - but not overconfident.
Nature: Hasty, Friendly
Biography: "The world is nothing but a challenge." Herbrandt Corliss, Sr. had said to his young son.
Herbrandt had known that for a long time. His father had been a great (but not legendary) boxer, his mother no slouch herself, having to be tough to keep up with his father's skill. He loved his parents and looked up to his father wanting to become just as great as his father. The father and son trained together, and Herbrandt looked set to become just as great as his father.
The family trained at a local gym in a small town away from others, but Herbandt also gained a fascination with the brawlers on the streets, and often watched the bouts between the many fighters and Fighting Pokemon - indeed, the back-streets gained a reputation for having some of the toughest fighters and fighting Pokemon in the city. Some of the more well-intentioned if not well-meaning saw his prowess and gave him some background in street fighting, and a little background in Pokemon training, albeit Herbrandt never wanted to become a serious trainer, and he didn't consider himself particularly adept at it, so he never planned to go on a trainer's journey. He won many back-alley street tournaments - his parents didn't care for this, but they'd known some of the older fighters there and at least made sure that an eye was kept out for them. It was here that he learnt some effective, but less savoury fighting skills - combined with his work at boxing, he became a tough brawler and a tough boxer, as well as learning a few of his father's special boxing skills that he'd almost become famous for. In some of the back alley fights he could even take on an experienced Hitmonchan and come out on top - of course, he couldn't tell anyone, most people would think it was some kind of Pokemon abuse.
When he turned 17, after a 'prestigious' back-alley brawling tournament that he'd won, he happened upon three brawlers whom were sizing up a young boy, whom looked about 12, asking him about money. Herbrandt tried to defuse the situation, but it ended up in a brawl. While he beat the brawlers, the child was severely wounded - he survived but was confined to a wheelchair, having lost the use of his legs.
Feeling an incredible amount of guilt, Herbrandt often visited the hospital that the boy was staying at, where he learnt that the boy had been working for a local gang member in order to raise money to help his dying sister, barely 10 years old - but now that he was confined to a wheelchair, he wouldn't be able to do even that. Herbrandt offered to donate some of the money that he'd won, but the doctors told him that the disease the little girl had was uncurable, the boy refused to understand that, and that all they could do was make her comfortable until her death.
Herbrandt was shocked - he'd never known anyone to be beaten by something that couldn't be fought against. He stayed with the two siblings constantly, telling them stories of the fights he'd been in and won, while the two children told him stories about Pokemon, movies, their dreams, just about everything. The boy had thanked him for saving his life, though Herbrandt could tell that deep down he was angry that he couldn't help his sister anymore. The two siblings still were friendly with him and they kept each other in awe with their stories and even dreams. He even let the two siblings draw on his boxing gloves - the boy drew a star on the left glove, and the girl drew a love-heart on his right glove - Herbrandt treasured these already lucky gloves with even more fervor.
However, the good times couldn't last - a year later, inevitably, the girl succumbed to her illness and died. The grieving boy disappeared shortly thereafter - Herbrandt would never find him. In his own grief, his already wavering skill began to slip further and he began to consistently start losing. Not only this, but he started to get sick himself and this only started to make things even worse for him, feeling certain that, if he didn't die, that he'd never fight again. His parents tried to help him, but Herbrandt had reached a spiralling depression.
One night, after reaching about thel owersthe ended up having a dream, in which he was visited by the little girl - he wasn't sure if it was a dream or some form of magic. Herbrandt still was in grief, but the little girl told him, "When no-one else does, I'll watch over you, and together we'll defeat whatever grief lies in our path!" Hearing these words, Herbrandt felt that the girl had attempted to absolve him of grief, and had reached out to him - through this Herbrandt started to overcome his own tragedies, and was put straight back onto the path of becoming the best - in fact, the fires in his heart burnt even stronger, and he refused to stop until he was the best.
The overcoming of this tragedy led him to become even stronger and be well on his way towards becoming one of the greatest fighters in the city by far - to such a point that, eventually, he left on a journey of his own in order to find new battles for him to conquer. However, barely after he'd even left his home town, he encountered, of all strange things, a glowing orange and purple portal.
"You always seek a new challenge? Then enter the world I present before you, and you can conquer an entire world, fit for the taking!" The Starfist smiled - conquering an entire world? Sounded like a worthy challenge. He decided he'd do everyone he cared about proud, and threw himself headfirst into the portal, ready to take on
Destination: Tunican
Special Ability(/ies):
Brute Fist (Lv. 1/5) - A super-powerful punch slammed into the opponent. This will cause recoil to hurt him, but 20% of the time will send the opponent flying backwards. Higher levels will reduce recoil damage (until Lv. 5 is 0%) and will raise chance to send opponent flying. (until chance is 50%). (Higher level is reached every 500 Power).
((A/N: Yeah, I'm not certain if this one is entirely fair, but I do want it in, so...let me know how best to fix it, 'K?))
Brute Barrage - Rush at the opponent with a flurry of powerful punches and kicks. A more powerful version of Mach/Bullet punch, but suffers recoil. Replaces Mach/Bullet Punch.
Weaknesses:
Unfightable Disease: In addition to his other weaknesses, Herbrandt suffers when facing Poison Pokemon and when himself poisoned - he loses health far quicker and his power suffers.
